Thomas Griffiths - Queens Dragoon Guards

I am wondering how I can find information about a relative who served in the Queens Dragoon Guards.

Thomas Griffiths was born in 1837 in Liverpool and on the 1861 census he is recorded as being a sergeant in the Queens Dragoon Guards.

I have looked on a website dedicated to the regiment and found two references to a T Griffiths, but they are both Troopers in 1860, so I'm not really sure about them. Plus you have to pay £25 to look at the record :x

Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can search for more records please?

Cheers

Hi Pegasus

Thank you for your reply and link.

I have tried the TNA before but find the catalogue really difficult to get around. Is this me just being particularly thick or is there an idiot proof away round it?

Cheers

Erika.

Sorry for delay in replying.

No it is not just You, I think it is sometimes akin to wadding through Treacle trying to find things on there!

The Guards Regiments seem to keep their own records. I too found that it would cost £25 but that was if they did the research.

For background information go into the Research guides part of the National Archives website.

Unfortunately if the National Archives do not hold the records and they are still with the Guards regiments you may have to either go and do the research yourself or pay for them to do it. Actually the same would apply to the National Archives unless what you want is on their documents on line you would either have to go yoursdelf or pay someone to do the research for you.
