The disappearing Caves

Like so many of my ancestors this family seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth!
I have William A Cave born Woolton 1869, his wife Margaret, born Newton-le-Willows 1871 and his two boys, William born 1895 and Stanley born 1900, both in Earlestown. They all appear on the 1901 census living in Newton-in-Makerfield. Can I find any of them on the 1911 - no I can't. I,ve tried to see if they may have emigrated but if they did it wasn't to Australia as far as I can see.
Can anyone find them?
Cheers

Do you actually know for sure that they survived?

Try searching for Margaret Cave - birthplace NEWTON. She turns up in Warrington.

Now put in Reference RD459 and Margaret Cave in the Other Members of Household (take out birthplace Newton) and you will find
Harold 8
Marjorie 2
Mary Ann Hunt 78.

Deaths of
Stanley Cave Q3 1901 Warrington 8c 135 (born about 1901)
William Cave Q2 1901 Warrington 8c 114 age 7

Thanks Carole, I hadn't even bothered to check for him in case he'd already died, although he wasn't showing up in the death indexes, I thought maybe Barbara could tell us Margaret's status from the census to make things easier.

Thanks Mary and Carole for finding the lost Caves. I did look for Margaret but thought it wasn't the right one when William and Stanley didn't appear. How sad that the two boys died. It's good to know they went on to have more children though. I wonder what William was doing in Wales?
Once again thank you for clearing up the mystery.

Visiting relatives maybe? he's with Thomas Cave age 68, Annie Cave 59 and Joseph Appleby Donnell age 29. It'd be interesting to know.

Definitely the right family, Thomas's birthplace is Woolton also, I suppose he's remarried since his previous wife was Elizabeth.

Hi folks,
Re the 1911.. Looks like William is back with his father who appears to have married again. Here's the 1891 entry for Thomas Cave bn abt 1843. Occupations are the same which leads me to believe this is them.

CAVE, Thomas - Head - Married - 47 - 1844 - Wheelwright - Little Woolton, Lancashire.
CAVE, Elizabeth - Wife - Married - 45 - 1846 - Much Woolton, Lancashire.
CAVE, Thomas Ashton - Son - Single - 22 - 1869 - Clerk - Much Woolton, Lancashire.
CAVE, William Ashton - Son - Single - 22 - 1869 - Wagon Maker - Much Woolton, Lancashire.
CAVE, Annie Wright - Dtr - 18 - 1873 - Dressmaker Apprentice - Newton in Makerfield, Lancashire.
CAVE, Jessie Eleanor - Dtr - 9 - 1882 - Scholar - Newton in Makerfield, Lancashire.
RG number: RG12 Piece: 3069 Folio: 21 Page: 35
Address: 135, Earle Street, Newton In Makerfield, Earlestown, Lancashire.

Cheers,

Even more thanks Mary and dickiesam! I knew about Thomas' remarriage but I hadn't looked in the earlier census where there appears to be another daughter - Jessie. Another branch to follow.

Hi Tina
Sorry not to have replied earlier but we've been away for a few days after all the summer visitors!
Does Cuz Gerry remember any of the names? These may be relatives of Arthur (the rat) Oubridge!
Cheers

Wow Tina, I'll give the cold case a go but I'll have to dig out the notes first!
As for the Caves, William A is a wagon maker in 1901 but I don't suppose he'd still be working or even alive by the 50's.
Watch this space for cold cases.

Don't think anyone has looked in a 1911 directory. He was in Wales in the 1911 census visiting his Dad.
