The Guard family
Posted: 21 Aug 2009 14:54

My maternal grandmother was Elizabethh Jane Guard, and among her siblings were Grace, Walter and William.
I think that Walter has a son Laurence, who will now be in his 60`s.
Any help will be most appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
We could do with a timeframe here, do you have any idea of Elizabeth's date of birth or preferably her marriage details, her marriage certificate will have her age, address and father's name which will be essential to ensure we search for the right family.

Hello Dixieroy and welcome,
In addition to the very useful information requirements listed by MaryA, is GUARD Elizabeth's maiden or married name?

Subject to confirmation of her father's name from the marriage certificate, I suspect I have an entry from the 1911 census index
RD455 SD4 in the Walton on the Hill area
William Henry Guard 55
Walter 27
Elizabeth Jane 18
if this is correct then the 1901 census would appear to have been transcribed as "Gerard"

I know you were only using the index trick, but did you find these all in the same household? I only found the three I named together, but Grace, William James, Mary Jane and Elsie appear to be living elsewhere ...

no sorry Mary

did mean to say I wasn't sure they were all in the same house

Makes me suspect the mother has died and the family are split up, I think William will have married Mary Jane and Grace is staying with them, maybe to help with baby Elsie?

Not so, they did not split up.
Elizabeth Jane was my grandmother, died in 1985.
Mary Jane died as a child, as did a boy named John.
A nd i remember meeting William, Walter, and AUntie Grace also.

I think you mistook my meaning.
To clarify the families and who is living/visiting who, I suggest you check the
1911 census which is pay per view so cheaper than a subscription.
