Thomas Birchall Manslaughter - Aquitted

Hi all,
Don't worry it's not those Montrose's I'm on about again!!!!
Whilst trying to trace a Thomas Noble Birchall b.1824 in Liverpool I find he was married twice. The first time to Betsy Evans at St Philip's Liverpool in 1844 and the second time to Frances Cooper at St Nicholas on 26th December 1852. He is recorded as a Widower on his marriage to Frances so Betsy must have died somewhere between 1844 and 1852. While I was 'fishing' around on Ancesrtry I went on the criminal trial records site and found a Thomas Noble was aquitted of manslaughter in 1850 in the County of Lancaster and that's about all the information I can gather from that site.
I could not find Thomas and Frances on the U.K 1861 census and then noticed on the 1871 census that their eldest child Thomas was born in Glasgow Scotland in 1856. Their second born Arebella was born in Liverpool in 1858. So, Thomas and Frances must have moved from Liverpool to Scotland somewhere between 1853 and 1856 and returned to Liverpool somewhere between 1856 and 1858.
It's possible Thomas may have moved to Scotland soon after his second marriage because of the stigma attached to the manslaughter charge, assuming of course it's the same Thomas Birchall!
Does anyone have any idea how I can obtain more information on the case of Thomas Birchall Aquitted of manslaughter in the County of Lancaster in 1850? I've tried the Liverpool Mercury on line for that period and not been able to find anything.
Any Help or advice would be most appreciated.

p.s I'm not mentioning the Everton .v. Arsenal Result!!!
