First of all, do you have Ann's marriage certificate to Thomas Whelan, that took place in St Peters in 1894? What address was she living at?

Evans family - where are you?

Hi Victoria,
Been searching for the Evans' for a while now. Did find a couple of John/Ellens in the 1891 and 1881 but none shown as both born in Liverpool.

So, had another look at the 1901 page and found that Ellen is actually shown as born in Bangor, Flint. The 'full' name is Bangor is-y-Coed (Bangor by/of the forest/wood). It's registration district between 1837 and 1897 was Wrexham. From '97 to 1935 it was Ellesmere. Be helpful to edit the post details.

On another tack I found this possible marriage that might be them:
Mar qtr 1875: Evans, John to Thomas, Ellen - Liverpool - 8b - 143.
The birth cert for Ann or better still, son Evan, would confirm this marriage and give an address/area to search in 1881.
Births Jun 1877: EVANS, Evan John - Liverpool - 8b - 101. Seems to be him?

Why didn't folk with names like Evans, Smith, Hughes and Jones give their children distinctive forenames like Marmaduke, Aloysius, Bartholomew, etc?

Still searching and because I did find some possible matching individuals I am wondering if the family may have been split up in 1891 and either all or some were in a workhouse.
Dickiesam.
