Hi Kathleen
Couldn't find any decorators in 1911 Directory.
Only one Fincher, Charles, wood carver Mulberry St with a shop in Seel St.
Chas and family in Mulberry St in 1901, a wood carver bn Shepherds Bush.
1894 Sorry no Finchers under Painters & Decorators.
Another Fincher, John also a wood carver.

You can search directories for the 1890's and 1900's online at
http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/ but I see only the same Finchers as Tina has found.

Hi Kathleen
Further to my above post, the Harriet Fincher born in Aston (part of Birmingham) was Harriet Catherine Fincher and she was married in Kings Norton (Birmingham) to a Frank Gittins Sept Qtr 1918. There is a marriage for Harriet Fincher to Richard Hughes June Qtr 1915 West Derby, Vol 8b p.970.
On the 1891 census the Francis Fincher in London was a House Decorator and was married to Harriet. Their daughter Harriet Margaret was born Dec Qtr 1891, Edmonton, 3a, p.281. Wife Harriet appears to have died Mar Qtr 1893 age 32, Islington, Vol 1b, p.279.
There is a likely marriage for them Dec Qtr 1890, Hackney, Vol 1b, p.928- her maiden name is Durrant.
Perhaps Francis came to Liverpool to visit relatives and decided to stay. There is a death for Francis Fincher age 57 Sept Qtr 1912, Liverpool, Vol 8b, p.58.
Hope this is helpful to you.

Francis FINSHER bn 1856 in Lpool
There's Harriet too aged 19yrs
If you need to know more, it's a pay per view site.

Good one Tina, I'd been putting "starting with" Finc, should have reduced it to the three letters instead.

Hi Kathleen,
Do you have the marriage cert for Richard and Harriet? what is Richard's age and the address he married from?
Also names of witnesses might help.
Maybe a search of the 1911 census will help maybe find him with his mother.

Hi Kathleen,
Was Richard's address Springfield?
I looked in 1914 directory and there was Springfield and Springfield Street, in the St Anne's area, Clare Street was off Springfield Street.
Nobody Hughes listed in them in 1914, and mainly lodging houses in the area.
