Chapel Lane Parish?

Hi everyone. I have just recieved death certificate for my Great Grandfather Thomas Gaynor, born 1865. He sadly died of Typhoid fever at the young age of 34 in 1898. At time of death he was living at 9 Chapel Lane. Would anyone know what parish Chapel Lane would be in so I can find out where he may be buried. He was possibly a Catholic.

Chapel Lane is a new one on me, do you expect it was Liverpool? If you are doubtful could you perhaps let us have details of the family from the 1891 census and we could try and see where the others were in 1901.

Also who registered the death? and does it give their address different to Thomas's?

If you think he was Catholic then the first place I'd try would be the three cemeteries Ford, Yew Tree or Ainsdale - microfiche is in the Liverpool Record Office, although there are graveyards in some Catholic Churches I suspect that by that date many would be full. Only one or two appear to have registers after that date.

Hi Mary, Chaple Lane was in formby. His wife, Mary, registered his death and it was the same address, Chaple Lane. Betty.

It looks like the death was rego'd in Tox Park.
Perhaps he was in a fever hospital?

If he died from typhoid, would he have been buried away from the main area in a cemetery?

Did they marry in 1888 W Dby?
If yes, this could be them in 1891 Thomas transcribed as Germer when it actually reads Gainer 26 carter bn Ireland, Mary 25 bn Lpool seamstress shirts, Thos jr 1.
41b Smithdown Lane W Dby.(Edge Hill/Abercromby)
Thos jr & an Edward 9 are with their Gaynor G/parents in 1901 Crown St, close to Smithdown Lane, no Mary who may have died in 1899 aged 31yrs.
Are you sure it wasn't Chapel Lane off Brownlow Hill? Not far from Smithdown Lane.
(Mary one of my Singos lived there!)

I can't find any in the Formby area.
Perhaps mistranscribed surname?

Hiya Tina, you have hit the nail right on the head. Edward there son was my Grandfather. He was born at 41b smithdown lane, and his Father Thomas was a Carter and Mary was his wife. I think you may be right about Chapel Lane being the one off Brownlow Hill. It makes sence. I will check that out. Thanks a lot Tina. Betty.

There is certainly a Chapel Lane in Formby, if you search for the address on googlemaps indeed this is the only one that shows in Merseyside.

I would certainly try Ford, although somebody more local might know if there are local cemeteries, or if it's worth looking at churches still at that date.

I think St Silas was the parish church around Smithdown Lane.

Where did you get Formby from Google?

Would you like 1901 census details of young Edward & his grandees?

Hi tina, I googled and there is no Chaple Lane off Brownlow hill, it must be the one in formby. I just carnt understand why they moved so far away. I have the 1901 census for my Grandad Edward thanks. I need to find out where Great Grandad Thomas was buried. Mary sugessted I try ford cemetery. On Thomas's death cert it says that he was treated at City Hospital Crafton st, have you any Idea where that was. Thanks for all your help. Betty.

I mentioned Google because that's where I thought you had first found Chapel Lane.
Believe me it was off Brownlow Hill in Lpool.
In the area where they all lived.
If he had died in Formby, his death would have been in Ormskirk and not Toxteth Park.
The hospital was in Grafton St Tox Park

Chapel Lane (1930s) shows up as parallel with Mount Pleasant, where the multi-storey car park, the cinema/club etc were built.
The hospital in Grafton Street was the Southern.

Hi Tina, it looks as though you were right, Daggers said Chaple Lane runs paralell with Mount Pleasant. I am so pleased I know where it was. Does anyone know what parish they would have attended while living at Chaple Lane, they were catholics. Betty.
