Does anyone know where this was? It was the secondary school that my father attended in the 1920s and as there isn't one of this name anymore, I wondered if anyone knows whether it's changed its name but still exists. (His address was in Orell).

Bootle Boys School

saw your post - not sure if this will confuse the situation BUT . . . .
Some years ago there were quite a few 'secondary schools' in the Bootle & Netherton area - altho the 2 areas don't seem closely related - Netherton became the 'overspill' for Bootle when its boundaries could no longer cope with the growing population.
At some point in its history Bootle Secondary School in Balliol Road became Bootle Grammar School but when the building was beyond repair the council built a new school in Netherton and to keep old traditions alive the school took the name Bootle Grammar School.
When co-ed came in the school amalgamated with two other schools in the area Warwick Bolam (boys) and Countess of Derby (girls) and all 3 sites were renamed as Bootle High School. As years passed the original Warwick Bolam site was released by the education dept to become a community centre, the original Bootle Grammar School site in Marian Way became a housing estate and the original Countess of Derby which had been extended became the only site for Bootle High School. Sadly, this month, the school closed its doors for the last time - a new Superschool has been built a couple of miles down the road.
I worked at Bootle High for just over 9 years so learned quite a lot of its history.
