Leah is 36, also in the household appear to be Philip 14, Leonard 11, Annie 9, Nancy 7, Willian 5, also Elizabeth Russell age 26.

To find out the address you will have to spend your dosh and I don't know where Lewis is.
Sorry  I'm muscling in on this post but I just wondered what the RD 455 is? I am searching for my grandfather and have spent ££££££££ on the 1911 without success.

Charles William Taylor b 1874 married to Crissie mary louisa (( maiden Nicholas)) in 1906 in Goodwick Pembroke and had children in Liverpool The last address I have was 60 Fountains Road in 1920.

Apologies to tsumi also (( but I am getting desperate now))

Thanks You Ann D :)

You deserve a post all to yourself. The RD455 is just the beginning of the reference and helps to identify where the family is, it's a bit of trial and error really and then trying to match if the expected names are living in the same house.

Are you able to guess where and when "Chrissie" was born and do you have the names and birthdates of any of the children that were born prior to 1911?

Hi,
As well as what MaryA asked, what was Charles' occupation and Chrissie's age on their marriage cert? Since you know his year of birth do you know where he was born? And finally... name and occupation of Charles' father on that cert and was he shown as deceased?

I'm going to assume that this is your Chrissie in the 1901 census

10 Nelson Street Pennar, Pembroke St Mary
Thomas Nicholas Head M 59 Shipwright Milford Pembrokeshire
Mary Ann Wife M 54 Kent Woolwich
George Son 24 Iron Driller Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire
Clara daur 15 " "
Crissie daur 12 " "
RG13; Piece: 5123; Folio: 113; Page: 27

So if she was born 1889 there is quite an age difference between them?

Hi Mary

You've lost me with RD455 I can get it to work for Leah Rubenstein but when I try it with one of my names Annie Ambrose it just shows West Derby Ambroses so do you need to change the numbers for different areas or what? Annie should be in Ormskirk registration district.

Sorry definitely thick tonight

Ed Officer

PS Tried Crissie and Chrissie no surname born 1889 with no success.

Hi

I've cracked it!

If you are looking for someone in the Ormskirk Registration District you need to put in RD457.

Maybe we could collect the codes for different areas?

Ed Officer

Liverpool RD453
Toxteth Park RD454
West Derby RD455
Prescot RD456

I usually try just the first few letters of a name because it's amazing how many transcription errors there are - don't we know it! Don't forget to choose the option "Names starting with". I've also tried them in the surname box too since that's often an error, but that hasn't worked. Now relying on Ann knowing some of the children.

There's a spreadsheet list of areas throughout the country which if you pm me your email address I'll send you a copy, don't know that it's up to date with all the Welsh counties on it though. Actually it is!

What you need to do is find a likely candidate and note where they are living and find the reference on the spreadsheet, now for West Derby for example the beginning would be SD455, but Liverpool would be SD453, Toxteth Park SD454 and so on. Once you have searched with this bit of the reference and the name and it still shows up you add the next bit of the reference, which is SD1, 2 or 3 for Liverpool, again these are listed on the spreadsheet.

When you have narrowed that down and still come up with your man the longer winded part comes - the ED number and that can go up to the 60's but eventually you will find the right number when your man comes up in the list.

At that point remove the name from the main search box and put it in the "Other Members of the household" boxes and the resulting list of names will hopefully be those he is living with.

The difficult arises with a common name such as Smith or even where there are families with the same name living quite close to each other and so have the same reference number but it works quite often, just takes a bit of effort.

Hi Everyone... Heres what I have...

1901 census... yes that is the Nicholas family Mary (( I do have most of the details I need of the Nicholas Family)) Sorry I should have said that in my post

Charles William Taylor born Yorkshire 1874 and died 1954..in Middlesex (( I know he lived there for only 3 years before he died)) I have death cert. He married Chrissie Mary Louisa Nicholas b Pembroke Dock 1888 I have marriage cert Goodwick Pembs 1906.

On Charles's marriage cert his occupation Fitter
Death cert Millwright/engineer for gas company
ON my mothers birth cert he was an gas company engineer fitter

There where 3 children including my mother 1920/1921/1924

The story goes there where 5 other children who died in infancy ...I dont have names but I did find one Charles William b 1914 West Derby and died age 0 1915 West Derby. so I'm thinking this may be one of the children

One more thing... Chrissie had a cousin Amy E who married John Stock and in 1911 they where living in Leeds and Amy's Aunt Margaret from Pembroke Dock was visiting them...Did Chrissie meet |Charles perhaps when visiting Amy???????? Who Knows?

Thank you hope the info may shed some fresh light on the elusive Charles.

Ann D :)

Just a couple of quick questions..

Do you have Charles' birth cert? If not, then what was the name and occupation of Charles' father on the marriage cert?

Surprised to find so many Charles William Taylors born between 1872 and 1876! Hundreds of 'em but only one born in Yorks (Huddersfield) in 1874.

Hi this is the biggest problem I dont have his birth cert nor do I know where in Yorkshire he was born...So many CWT's in Yorkshire... Tell me about it!!! 2 possibles Goole 1873 and Huddersfield 1874. Thats assuming he was actually born 1874 ...He was 80 when he died in 1954 soooo I guess he must have been born 1874 mmmmmm... is guessing ok when doing family searching

Charles father was Fred Taylor occupation Tailor as on marriage cert.

And Charles age on the marriage certificate definitely matched that given on his death certificate?

I'm thinking about the age difference - Chrissie born 1889 and Charles 1874 .......

I don't suppose the surname Moore means anything to your family?

I wondered about the age difference and whether he was married before.. and... no Moore doesnt ring any bells.

Marriage cert he was 32 a bachelor and Chrissie was 18...a spinster.

Witness's her dad Thomas Corkhill(( this was his mothers maiden name) Nicholas and Edward Whittaker Drew.

The reason I asked about Moores. This line is going nowhere but you might want to file it in case anything ever connects.

The 1881 census is the only one where you can search by occupation and coincidentally in Yorkshire there was a "Fred" rather than a Frederick, which is unusual.

Wind Mill, Skelmanthorpe, Yorkshire
Grace Hirst Head Wid 61 Yest Dealer Almondbury, Yorkshire (I think this should be yeast)
Fred Taylor son in law Mar 24 Tailor Scissett Yorkshire
Hannah Taylor daur Mar 26 Tailor's Wife Skelmanthorpe, Yorkshire

Hannah Wife M 36 Skelmanthorpe Yorkshire
Adelaide daur 8 Scholar Scissett "
Frank son 5 " " "
Ada Lawlice Taylor daur 4 " " "
Sarah Ann Moor Visitor M 43 Weaver Skelmanthorpe Yorkshire
RG12; Piece: 3561; Folio 66; Page 2

1901 12 Wharncliffe Road, Eccleshall Bierlow, Yorkshire
Aaron Moore Head M 59 General Builder Employer Yorks Denby
Sarah A Wife M 56 " Skelmanthorpe
Clara S daur S 28 Elementary National School Mistress " Clayton West
Annie daur S 26 " Board " " Scissett
Flora " S 24 " " " " Barnsley
Kate A " S 16 " "
Ethel G " S 14 " "
Adelaide Taylor Niece S 18 Elementary National School Mistress " Scissett
Frank F Taylor Nephew S 15 " "
Ada L Taylor Niece S 14 " "
RG13; Piece: 4350; Folio: 105; Page: 22

This has probably all gone off on a tangent, especially with no sign of Charles, unless of course he is a "grandson" with another family, but it all hinges on the name and occupation of Fred.

Hi DaisyCakes

Glad to have been some help. I know what it's like to come up against those brick walls!! Had plenty over the years!! By the way, Charles was still living at 60 Fountains Road, Kirkdale in the 1938 directory. Hope you can now find him on the 1911 census.

On the IGI I have found the following entry, it's not a submittedentry but it gives no church!

5 February 1865 Yorkshire
Selina Shaw father Joseph Shaw married Fred Taylor father John Taylor

It seems to fit with the census entries.

I used to live in Penistone where Fred says he was born and there were a few taylors. Unfortunately I cannot find Fred on the 1861 or 1851 censues possibly in the Penistone/Huddersfield area or in Liverpool in the 1871 census

The reference for the marriage is March Quarter Huddersfield Reg district 9a and then the page is given as 373 on freebmd but I read it as 375 on the image so it needs further checking.

There are 2 Selina Shaws living in Almondbury and fortunately only one has a father Joseph so I guess that's her. My feeling is that they probably married at Almondbury Church.

Now to investigate Fred maybe I can find his father.
