Greetings again I was feeling very smug that I had successfully linked my gr gr grandfather Francis Tidyman (1841 L'pool) with his parents in the 1841 census and again in 1851 however his marriage certificate indicates that his father's name in Thomas.

1841 details
James Tidyman 40 Stone Mason not born in Lancashire
Jane Tidyman 32 not born in Lancashire
Sarah Tidyman 12 born Lancashire
Mary Ann Tidyman 9 born Lancs
Elizabeth Tidyman 3 born Lancs
Francis Tidyman 6 mths born Lancs
HO 107/563/11 large print numbers 10,11
small page numbers 12, 13

1851 details Blenheim Street
Jane Tidyman widow 14 (dyslexia I think 41) Laundress born Cambridge
Francis Tidyman 10 scholar born Liverpool
John Tidyman 7 born Liverpool
Ellen Tidyman 2 born Liverpool
HO 107/2177 can't read no in corner of page small page no 51

Marriage certificate from Feb 1864 details Francis as being 23 yrs old Father Thomas Stone Mason John Tidyman was witness

Ancestry has a death notice for a James Tidyman in 1847 which would fit the family I have found.

Have not been able to find a Thomas that matches the marriage cert - can I keep James and assume that Francis was in error when he gave his father as Thomas - or maybe it was a family name. If it is the same family he would have only been 7 when the father died

cheers

Hi Sandy, are you aware of a listing on IGI for Francis Tidyman Christened 5 Sep. 1841? Parents TOWERS TIDYMAN & JANE..

I once found a Thomas listed as Tolmers. Perhaps yours was an error in hearing pronunciation way back or changed by himself to James in preference?

Sandy, I chose one child you'd mentioned, Francis, to look up his possible birth/christening-British isles then enter.
Up came the Parents names.

I then put only the Parents names as given..event Birth/christening
British Isles, enter & up came all children of that couple.

Followed I should try for a marriage for Towers Tidyman & Jane- British Isles -anywhere..voila!

Hope it pans out for you. Ofcourse it may be a different Family all together

Just had to try for abirth,.. IGI has 2 Towers Tidyman Christenings, one in Cumberland 1801 & one in Liverpool.
07 May 1843 St.Peters L'pool. Parents Francis & Ann.
Perhaps an adult christening?

Wendy I think you've cracked it I finally found the right link on the family search website and bingo found Towers christening (4/5/1801 in Cumberland parents John and Sarah. I had previously been looking for Francis on the web and came across a geneology done for an American woman which shows a John Tidyman marrying a Sarah Towers in 1781. I'm thinking that Towers (Thomas) and James are the same person - if they are the American woman has their Tidyman line back to 1664 - lots of Johns, Francis's and Thomas's.

Thank you for giving me my eureka moment.
Regards
Sandy

Hope you are getting some rain

Well done Wendy, I would think the details you have found will lead to a much larger family than expected, the christening in Cumberland will possibly be the one since "James" in 1841 gave his birthplace as Not in County, but the one in 1843 I would suspect is going to be cousin to the main line.

It always mystifies me how two people from apparently different parts of the country manage to get together in a third place and have their family.

I think there is probably a lot more family yet to be explored since there are another two births for a Towers - one in 1864 and another in 1883, both in the Liverpool area.

.
Not to mention two people from different parts of a country going to another Country to find said Family.

Thanks Mary.

Hi Guys The Towers in 1883 is my gr gr gr Uncle - born to Francis Tidyman and Elizabeth Williamson. It was the marriage certificate for Francis and Margaret that created the confusion for me in the first place. I am pretty happy to align myself to the Towers born in Cumberland as his birth year and that of "James" in 1841 census is the same. Too many coincidences.
