Hi,
Where was your grandfather living in 1901 and could you give us his name?
That occupation may have been in local 'lingo', etc.

Hello Susan,
I did think of 'Cotten' but the 'lad' would probably have to be in Lancashire to be in a Cotton Mill. Hence my question about where he was in 1901 and his name so we could go and look. Then I thought 'he's 17 and still called a lad'?

well I guess we will have to wait for "Evans11" to give us the census ref so we can take a look at the original.
