You need to check which other names are on the same page number in the register - in this case
Thomas Fincher married Q2 1842 Atherstone Volume 16 Page 273
I don't use Findmypast but I suspect that it would be similar to the other site - can you click on the page number to find out the other names from the database? In this case only one name is provided - Mary Peake.
It might be that there were only two names on that page in the register, there are often four or even eight names, so it could be that the others haven't yet been transcribed.
The certain way of finding out who the children's mother was is by one of their birth certificates and usually a double check by looking at the family group in the next census.
Have you checked the IGI to see if the marriage is on there?

Lucky you
Thomas Fincher married Mary Peake 14 APR 1842 Parish Church of Ansley (Warwickshire)
There is a website about St Laurence's church
http://www.ansleychurch.org/articles/ar ... php?id=129 I wonder if you contacted them if they could tell you where the registers are held.
The only child I find on the IGI born to this couple is
Mary Fincher 10 February 1843 Wellesbourne
