My name is Brian Evans; I am 45 and currently live in Grimsby. I was born in Liverpool and brought up in Copperfield St, sadly no longer there; my childhood was spent in Liverpool 8 area.

I now want to trace my family; some seem to have come from Ireland and some from Wales.

I have come to a bit of a stand still can need some help please, does anyone know were Plumbe St was in Liverpool?

Hi Brian,

Welcome to the site.

Can you give us some clues as to what you are stuck on some names, dates etc. I had family in Copperfield Street, not sure who, unless I look through all my details but I know Copperfield Street rings a bell, all my family were from Liverpool 8,

Can you give us a date for Plumbe Street, I have looked in 1900 street directory and it is not listed, maybe it was earlier or later.

Jan

Plumbe Street, liverpool

Thanks Jan, Sorry, my question is not so much about Copperfield St as Plumbe St. the date I am looking at is 1881 and the whereabouts of Plumbe St at that time

Hi Brian,

Is the street name from the 1881 census?

Can you give us some names etc or the census ref numbers?

I have been trying to find this street.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The description of the Enumerator's Walk for District 22 (Dale Street) is as follows:

The whole at Pall Mall and Courts, McViccar Street and Court, Key Street and Courts, also Cartway leading from Key Street to McViccar St. Plumbe Street and Courts, but excluding Maidens Green.

Unfortunately my map covering this area is 1906 and I don't see these streets, except for Pall Mall which you can identify on a modern map - try http://maps.google.co.uk/

Hi Brian, this may also help, just noticed Mary's info :)
1860 Gores Directory shows Plumbe St was close to Key St, Tithebarn St,
Exchane Buildings and Liverpool Town Hall .

Ive found this map on the LEVERPOOLE site for 1835. It shows Plumbe St running in the square between Leeds st, Old Hall St, Vauxhall Rd & Tythebarn St and is a continuation of Key st

you will need to click on the Vauxhall Rd link to open it

Hi Brian, there is a very old street map showing Thithebarn and Dale street on this link, proberley before Plumbe Street was built .

The map was donated by Tony Swarbrick a kind friend of our forum, there is also a link to Tony's site which I am sure you will find interesting and helpful so will post it here also . www.leverpoole.co.uk

Good stuff girls.
1853 lists Plumbe St off Key St, sadly doesn't list the occupants.
