Devereux - Newton-le-Willows

Firstly, is the right section for an enquiry about Newton-le-Willows? It seems that it could be Wigan, St. Helens or Warrington. I apologise if I have placed this in the wrong section of the forum.

I am trying to discover all I can about Walter Devereux, born about 1870 in Newton-le-Willows. He was the son of John & Mary Devereux and he lived in Mill Lane, Newton-le-Willows, at least until 1908.

He worked as a print compositor and married at some time between 1901 and 1908. But, having looked on Ancestry, I can't find a record of his marriage.

I am also struggling to find a record his death, although there is a record of a burial of a Walter Devereux in the Newton-le-Willows Churchyard dated 23/01/1942.

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

Thanks Mary.

I have discovered that a Walter Devereux was buried in the Newton-le-Willows churchyard on 23rd January, 1942 so I will visit and see if the headstone gives any more information.

Hi Ken

N-l-W cemetery is covered by the St Helens "deceased search". This shows that in the grave with Walter are Mary Harriett Devereux, buried 22/05/1926, aged 47 and Elsie Whitehead, buried 01/07/1988, aged 83.

Walter was aged 72 when he died, and he was buried on 23/01/1942.

The marriage of Walter and Mary Harriett Chapman was in Q2/1901 in Warrington, Vol 8b, Page 305
