Post by Tina »

Hi everyone
Here's a link to their latest addition.
This info was with the Genealog*** before. 270,000 merchant seaman.
quote these records are indexes only but will point you in the direction where the repositories are held unquote.

I hope this may help someone.

Cheers
Tina

Hi Tina,

Many, many thanks for the link.
I may ,just may, have found my Grt Grandfather,James W H Palmer,(born 1841,Devon,died Liverpool 1899,) on board the ship Marpessa 1897,in the crew list,s.
If it is him it has taken about six years of searching, and maybe now I can find more about his working life as an A B Seaman
Hopefully another brick wall down!

Cheers Tsumi, :D :D :D

Thanks Tina, even without a subs it's very interesting as I see the later entries have a birthdate and place, so it's good for tying up some of our ancestors who appeared to have vanished.

Please post your link on the Websites board also.

Hi this crew list is called CLIP ( Crew listing index Project) groups of volunteers from various record offices around the country who hold crew lists volunteered their time and indexed the lists. A copy of the CD is available at the Liverpool Record Office. As a volunteer on this project I have a copy of this CD. The references on the page stand for eg LIV Liverpool IOM Isle of Man etc.

Hi All,

I am afraid my joy was short lived, the J Palmer on the Find My Past list was another person .
When I contacted Flintshire RO ,a very helpful lady looked up the record and the gentleman J H Palmer was born 1862 in South Shields.
For a short time, I thought this is it.

The one I'm looking for is

James W H Palmer,born 1841,Devon,lived in Liverpool from 1882,died Liverpool 1899.
James was classed as an Able Bodied Seaman.

Many thanks

Tsumi :) :)
