I wonder if anyone can please help me with finding Peter Baker?
On the 1901 Census (Class: RG13; Piece: 3438; Folio: 147; Page: 16.) Peter is a 2 year old living with his parents James and Mary Baker and his siblings in Toxteth Park.
The most likely birth I’ve found for him is September 1897.
On the 1911 the family is living in Date Street, Toxteth. Peter’s name has been written on the list as a 13 year old, but then crossed out in red ink and the word ’dead’ written alongside - also in red. It looks as though Peter was added by mistake and that he had actually died before 1911. I can’t find a death for him anywhere.
Below Peter’s name is another child Edward who is also crossed out. No age has been entered. I have found Edward in St. Anne’s baptism records but cannot find him in births or deaths either!

Maybe he wasnt registered as peter. what were his parents names also his mothers maiden name Irene

On the 1911 how many children born to the marriage and how many have died..can you not work it out from that..

Peter's parents are James Baker and Mary Elizabeth. I know that this was Mary's second marriage. her marriage certificate gives her as 'formerly Connor'. The 1911 shows the household as -

James Baker, Head age 50;
Mary Elizabeth Baker , wife, 51
John Connor, stepson age 29, single,
Peter Baker, son, 13 (with the crossing out and 'dead')
Thomas Baker, son, age 11
Arthur Baker, son, age 8,
Edward Baker (crossed out)
They have been married 14 years, have had 4 children born alive, 2 children living.
I can account for Thomas and Arthur who lived to old age. It looks as though these 2 definitely died before 1911, but I just can't find any registration to match.

Where they still in Tockie Park in 1911 census?
It will make it easier to find the deaths if we have the district.
They may have been transcribed wrongly.
Perhaps they died elsewhere (e.g we had one kiddie over the water in a home for invalids)
Free bmd have his birth in Tox Park sep qtr 1897, so his death at 13 would have only been quite recently before 1911.
Will keep snooping.

Well i guess if theres no death reg to be found NEXT should be to find a Burial.

I have gone through the Toxteth burials 1901-1911 and no trace of him..also had a look at St James burials too..

Were there any Ireland Connections..could they have gone over there and he died there..

Also what about Edward..i take it there was no age on the 1911 for him.

What address were the family at in 1911..? i take it they were Church Of England marrying in St Matthews.

Heres a creepy snippit from the Lpool Mercury newspaper August 1895 at 4 Godwin St Toxteth..were your family were in 1901..

Edward O'Brien murdered his sweetheart Sarah Jenkinson through Jealousy..he cut her throat with a razor in the backyard August 1895, she was a domestic servant

Your family must have moved in not long after this...

Other than not registering Peter's death.. its possible he did not die in England or Wales..

Meant to ask what about William born 1894 was he a Connor ????

Thanks for your interest.
In 1911 the family were living at 2 Date Street, TP.
I suspect that Mary Elizabeth's parents may have been Irish, but haven't proved that for sure yet. I guess its possible the death and burial took place elsewhere, but given the apparent poverty of the family I doubt that they travelled much at this time.

On the 1901 all the children are listed as Baker. However, John,Kate, and James were definitely Connor from Mary Elizabeth's first marriage. I don't know about William yet. It would seem from the fact that the couple had 4 live children - 2 surviving, in this marriage that maybe William was also a Connor, but no one in my family knew about his existence whereas they did know about the others.
Edward is elusive too. I'm wondering if this family (my great grandparents) were just a bit neglectful about attending to these 'formalities'.
What a story from the Mercury Collette! I wonder if they knew about that when they moved in?Perhaps it wouldn't have mattered to them anyway if they were in dire need of a home.

Sorry - forgot to add that though they were married in St Matthews, the baptism I found for Edward was in St Anne's.

Chesked the Ancestry death indexes from 1901 to 1911 to no avail. The only Peter I found of any note was dec 1903 W Derby, but he was aged 0.

Ancestry have a peter CONNOR born 1899 right age for 1901 census .
died 1906 apr-june liverpool age -7 when you look at the actual page it says 27 which is wrong REF 8B 22. Might be worth a look Irene

Thanks for your continued efforts. Sorry about the delay replying, had a few busy days.
The 1899 Peter does fit I agree, but I have a birth certificate for Thomas Baker, he was born in 1899 also.
The death of a 7 year old Peter Connor looked promising, but on 1911 it does state that they had 4 children born live this marriage (Baker)- 2 surviving. On the 1911 he had been put down as 13 yrs. Maybe his mum said he would have been 13 yrs if he had lived.That just about adds up but the name is still a bit tricky.
It might be worth me investing in a birth/death cert to confirm or rule him out.
