Can anyone help me find Frederick Davies in a British Census up to 1901 and then in New York USA.
I have his marriage 2/6/1906 to Louisa Hooton at Cranmer Wesleyan Chapel in Liverpool. He was aged 29 and a Bachelor, living 6 Gt Mersey Street, Kirkdale and a General Labourer. His father is stated as William Davies - Foundry Labourer.
They had a child in 1908 and Louisa died in 1910. My friend who I am trying to help says that he was a purser on board ship and she has a photograph of him on board a ship holding a notice SS Bohemian - Boston USA 1909. He is down as a Ships Steward on her Father's marriage certificate. She also has a letter from Frederick dated 1935 with the address 729 Garden Street, Holboken, New York stating that he was working in the US Tavern at 41, 3rd Street. She thinks that this is the last letter that her father received from him. Frederick is her grandfather and she would like to know more about him and when he died.
We do not have any further information on where he was born or if he had any siblings. I have managed to trace Louisa Hootons family but drawn a blank with Frederick on the British Census returns. Found a few with father William but can't get occupation confirmation.
I have not got access to World Ancestry so can't find him in the USA either.
Sorry this has been such a long request. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Eileen
Need a bit more info from you..I take it both Fred & Louisa emigrated to USA New York ?? if so roughly when....and did they have any other children ?
Also who were the witneses to their marriage and where is Lousia in 1901
In 1911 a John Murphy resided at 6 Great Mersey St he was a Warehouse Keeper .. so maybe Fred was lodging with him back in 1906.
Anything else however small would help..

Hi Colette
As far as we know Frederick went to the USA after Louisa died in Mar quarter 1910, but is believed to have been at sea before that. Hence the photograph. I did find that an SS Bohemian was built for the Leyland line in 1900 for the Liverpool - New York run. Whether he was a crew member or a passenger on this ship in 1909 I do not know.
I did find a Frederick Davies age 14 in 1891 as a visitor at 77 Commercial Road with Alice Teare - a widow aged 46. I thought that could be a link but she married a John Smith and that didn't help.
The only child we know for sure is Frederick Norman Davies born Oct 1907. On the 1911 Census he is living with his Aunt Laura and her husband Thos. W. Arnold.
In 1901 Louisa is living with her parents John and Ann Hooton at 70 Commercial Road and is still there in 1906 at the time of her marriage. The witnesses to the marriage were her sister Laura and her future husband Thos W Arnold so these have not proved to help with the Davies family.
My friend had asked me to see what I could find for Frederick and apart from his marriage I have drawn a blank and yet she had the addresses in New York from 1935. The rest of her family tree have been fairly easy to find.
Thanks for your interest

Hi Eileen
Alice Tear.... she was Alice Jones she married Joseph Tear in 1865 at St George Everton he was a Furniture broker.. father William mother Isabella.
I checked for Alice Jones in 1861.. there are two possibles living in Everton.. seen as though she married there i recon thats her parish..
Aughton St Everton
Elizabeth Jones Widow 53 b Lpool
Dau Elizabeth age 23 b Lpool
Son William age 19
Dau Alice age 15
Dau Emma age 13
Son Henry age 3
103 Stanley Terrace Rose Vale Everton
Ann Jones age 48 Widow b Kent Smallware Shop
Dau Alice age 16 b Lpool
Son James age 8 b Lpool
Its hard to guess really as all we have is a Frederick Davies visiting Alice in 1891.. he could have been a mate of her son George Henry and nothing to do with the family.. as it doesn't say Nephew etc.
Then again Alice could well be his mothers sister for all we know.
The 1930 US census has his birth year at 1880 now so i think we need to clarify his real birth year..
Wonder if anyone can find in 1920

Hi Colette
Thanks for your input. I had looked at the Teare and come to the conclusion that they were not related after checking census returns and marriages. However the Great Mersey Street Census looks promising.
Can't find a marriage for William and Emma however that could match.
I also found an 1881 Census RG11/3690/130/54 with William Davies Born Brecon - Labourer in foundry - with wife Winifred - born however in Ireland. No children on this census.
Will keep looking.
