Help please I have been facing the brick wall for years with this very common name.
I have recently learnt that a marriage between John Lloyd and Margaret Shields in 1888. John was born in Liverpool in 1860 so the family might be on the 1861 Census.
But his father is my sticking point.

He might be called William married to a Margaret I think he came from Wales but any facts would be very welcome indeed.Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Chris's find looks good, however, to confirm it your next step is to discover John's father's name and occupation by means of the marriage certificate.
If you change the heading of your post to "Marriage look up - St Martins" if somebody is going to the Rcord Office they might be good enough to check the details for you to save you ordering the certificate.
John Lloyd married Margaret Ellen Shields at Liverpool, St. Martin between October and December, 1888..
In case you need to order the certificate, the reference numbers you need as well as the above details are Liverpool district 8b 75.

Well done Colette. I think that's a lesson in not taking for granted what we think we may know and also to take things step by step instead of a big jump!
