Anyone going to Lancs Record Office?

If anyone is going to Preston any time I would be grateful for a marriage look-up. The couple in question are Maria Ellen Barker and Thomas Robertshaw Entwistle. They were married at Nelson Central Methodist church in the July-Sept quarter of 1910. The records are apparently held in Preston.
I would be delighted if Maria's father was Eli Barker.
No hurry, it's not that urgent.
Thanks in advance
Barbara.

Hi Barbara,
I am going to Preston on Wednesday next week if that's any use? I'd be happy to have a look for you, but don't expect miracles as I often get 'lost' in the records

Hello Lil
That would be great. As I said, there's no rush - I don't think they're going anywhere!
I used to live near the Fylde coast - Clifton, near Kirkham. Is that anywhere near you?
Thanks in advance
Barbara

Hi Barbara,
No probs.
Kirkham isn't too far away...I live near Cleveleys (just outside Blackpool)
Hope I can find what you want :D

Hi Barbara,
Well I went to the record office yesterday as promised, but didn't realise they have a security scheme CARN that requires identity checks and I totally forgot to take any ID with me  My grand-daughter was with me and she didn't have anything either, so we were issued with a visitor pass and a very pleasant young woman explained the system to us and helped us to find the Index ref. we wanted. However, they only have the original documents (not yet on Microfiche/film) and because we were only on a visitor pass we weren't allowed to view these :(
However, Rachel (grand-daughter) said she would go back today and sort it all out, which she's done and I hope this is the result you want :D

Here goes.....

9th July 1910 at Wesley Chapel, Carr Road, Nelson (column 21)
Thomas Robertshaw Entwistle age 27 Cotton Cloth Salesman 42 Lomeshaye Road Nelson.
Father Thomas Bateson Entwistle Sand merchant

Maria Ellen Barker age 31 Council School Teacher 112 Waids House Road, Nelson
Father Eli Barker (deceased) Chapel Reeper (that is probably Keeper but the writing is difficult to read apparently)
Witnessed by Harry/Henry Entwistle and Margaret Barker in the presence of James Halliday.

Rachel wasn't convinced about the Sand Merchant, so she looked on Rushden Research Group website at Kelly's Directory for 1910 and discovered a Sand merchant listed, so it's probably right.

The Wesley Chapel is one of many names the Methodist Church has had over the years, so I think you can safely accept it as being the right place :D

Hope that helps :D
Lil :)

Thank you so much - that's exactly what I wanted to know and it confirms everything I thought. You and your grandaughter are both stars! Sorry you had such a fraught time getting the information but believe me it is much appreciated. If ever you're in France stop by for a glass of wine!
With gratitude
Barbara

Hi Barbara,
You're very welcome :D If I'd had my brain in gear we wouldn't have had any problems...I've been to Liverpool Record office often enough to know the drill  However, Rachel is at University in Preston and had no problem going back. One of her Modules involves going to the record office and when she mentioned this to the young woman who helped her, she was asked if she would like a tour of the strongroom :D She was delighted to accept and had a wonderful hour looking round and being shown some very old records, which she really appreciated. So your request had a good result for both of you :D
We'd both love to join you for a glass of wine when we next visit France.....except we don't know where you live  We've been to Paris a couple of times and loved every minute of it :)
If you need anything else from Preston feel free to ask, I often go there and don't mind going to the Record office at all.

Hi Lil
I'm nowhere near Paris. We live about 45 minutes south of Angouleme in the south of the Charente. Let me know if you're coming down our way!
Thanks for the offer of further info - I may take you up on it in the future.
Have a nice week-end.

Hi Barbara,
No idea where your hometown/village is, so I don't think you'll be getting any unexpected visitors any time soon
Enjoy your weekend, hope the weather is as good for you as it is here....warm, sunny and a slight breeze :D

After a week of scorching weather the weekend was cold and wet - c'est la vie!

What a shame :? We had a brilliant weekend, really sunny and warm, but it rained overnight and into this morning. We need the rain though as the gardens are dry and flowers needed a good soaking. Saved me watering the garden anyway
