Happy Easter all,
I may have a distant relative,Edward Fearns living and dying at 9,Crown Square,Liverpool/1861/1869.
What kind of houses were there and where in Liverpool was it.
Sarah his widow was living as a boarder at the home of Robert Sampson and his family in 1871,at 8,Kemble Street,West Derby,Liverpool.
So I guess Edward and Sarah didn,t own their house.
She describes herself as a Widow of a Warehouseman Wine & Sprits Trade.
Many thanks Tsumi

I don't know if it helps but I think Liverpool should have 10 ft to the mile maps? These were Ordnance Survey maps done in the late 19th century for most major towns. I've looked at those for Manchester. The detail is incredible - both external and internal- even hedges and trees and garden layouts can be seen. If you really want to know what the square was like they would be worth looking at.

Many thanks once again .
I have now bookmarked the site .
I did have most of the good one,s in my favorites list ,but after losing most of my data with a recent crash of the computer ,you don,t know what you have lost until you need it.
We have a lot to thank Tony Swarbrick for.
Cheers Tsumi

Hi, I used to walk along Crown Street or Smithdown Lane every day to school at Harrison Jones, but I honestly dont know what Crown Square was like it may have gone in the bombing, but the houses in Crown Street itself were quite grand i.e stone steps up to front door , basements and railings around, and at least 3 stories high. possibly let off in to many family's in my time, the street was wide as I remember, some of the streets off it were either small terrace on to the street or had basements, never the less houses which would have cost a mint these day's. What a legacy we have lost through bad planning. L.B

searching for Mc Cann, ( Dublin,Ireland) Mc Dermott (Edinburgh,) Evans, (Gaerwen,Anglesey) Jones (Llansilan,Denbigh) Wesson, (Bluntisham-cum-Earith, Hunts) Thoday, (Willingham, Cambs) Cuttriss (Islip, Northampton) Lucas (St Ives, Cambs)
Thank you Liverbird for the lovely description,I was almost traveling along with you.
I agree entirely about the planners.
I was in Liverpool town a number of weeks ago and a lady was doing a survey on that subject, she said it would only take about two minutes, she was glad to get away from me, after half an hour spent on the rant after my doing her questions.
Cheers Tsumi
