Hi

I am a bit dubious about "Mary"

Looking at the 1871 image - she is May - not Mary and I wonder if the enumerator has made an error and assumed she is Bowden

1871

Margaret Chance head 35 married seamans wife b Ireland
Mary Bowden 42 married eating house keeper b Ireland
May (dittoed) Bowden dtr 17 b Liverpool

Hi

John Bowden & Mary Eustace married in Liverpool in March qtr 1846

Is it definitely the same couple on the 1851 census with son James aged 4?

There is no birth for a James C Bowden but there is one for a James Bowden

Reading that report above - it suggests that James was only 11 when he entered the USA and continued his schooling there. My impression is that the family emigrated - not just James

It's 2 different James Bowden's and whoever wrote that piece has got their wires crossed

This is the 1880 US census for Wisconsin

Jas. C. BOWDEN 33 b IL Lumberman parents b ENG
Susan R. BOWDEN 27 b WI Keeping House parents b ME
Clyde BOWDEN Son 3 b WI ME WI
Wm. DOUGLASS FatherL W 70 b ME Lumberman father b SCO mother b ENG

James & Mary

Hi

Mary is a mystery - always assuming that they are the right Bowden family

2 possible deaths for James

Deaths Dec 1853

Bowden James West Derby 8b 2_1

Deaths Mar 1861

Bowden James West Derby 8b 275

or this 1871 entry for Runcorn

James Bowden 23 b Liverpool
Mary 24 b Northwich
Eliza A 3 months b Runcorn
