Do the Incoming Passenger Lists include arrivals from Europe?
If so, could some kind person look for the following for me please _
Robert Parry Williams born 1841 Caernarvonshire, returning to this country 1879 to 1891.
Much appreciated.

Sorry, no Robert Williams of around that age, the nearest was born 1846, coming in to Southampton from New York in 1890. No Robert Parry Williams arriving back during that period. The only one not giving a birthdate was arriving from New York to Liverpool in 1891.
I think the Passenger Lists are mainly from USA, Canada and South Africa.

Hi bigG
He could be in findmypast leaving after his arrival. Just put in his details in the main index.
There will be lots of info for census etc.
He may be listed in shipping lists.
Cheers
Tina

Hi
The incoming passenger lists only have people from Europe if the ship stopped at a European port on it's way to the UK. Passenger ferries and their equivalents are not shown. They didn't have passenger lists as such.

My 2x Grt Grandfather 'Carl HERTZBERGER' (Bn C1817, Prussea) is recorded as living in Manchester in 1851, & came to Liverpool @1857-60!
I & my Cousin have been searching for Him on the Passenger Lists for Years, Has anyone came across Him?
also searching for:
Peter BRUNN (BROWN) Bn C1827, Germany
Dorothea BRUNN (BROWN) Bn C1816, Germany
Dorothea married Carl in Manchester Catherdral in 1851

Sorry Pegasus, I've tried quite a wide name search and age but nothing showing up. Unfortunately Ancestry's database primarily covers USA and Canada, so it's really not surprising.
There is a family named Herchberger coming in to Liverpool from New York (although the transcription says Montreal) on the Numidian in May 1896, all initials SH age 51, Mrs age 48, H age 2.
Also entering Southampton from New York in November 1956 on the General George W Goethals are another family named Herchberger, Georgia born 19 March 1931, Lane W born 8 July 1953 and David L born 2 May, 1956, going to Bedford planning to stay for 3 years.
The only Dorothy or Peter Brunn came in the next Century.

I doubt very much if a German family would show on an incoming passenger list as they would more than likely arrive on a ferry type vessel. Most from the German states came into an east coast port and then made their way to different places. These boats equivalent to our passenger ferries didn't have passenger lists just as the ships from Ireland didn't have passenger lists.
however you might find evidence of naturalisation. Any such records would be at the National Archives. Have a look at their website and download their research guide on Naturalisation.

Mary.
Thank You for trying.
I think they may have all came in through Hull, possibly from Hamburg.
I did find refferemce numbers for the records to be found in the PRO (Kew) years ago (in the Family Tree magazine), but when My Cousin went down to London to look at them she was told that the ref: Numbers were 'Unknown' or 'Incorrect'.

I will try (again) using Your suggestion!
