Hi Barbara
If they are non Liverpool, do you know place or county?

Hi

Wills before 1858 were proved in the church courts. These wills are generally lodged in the County Record offices of where the person lived.

It depends which area as to what you might find. Rather than going through a lot of areas please post where ie county you are interested in.

Wills after 1858 where proved in the main courts. There is a probate index in many record offices which covers all wills in England and Wales. Many have this on microfiche from 1858 - 1943 but some ie Liverpool have it in books. Record offices then often hold the later indexes in the actual books. This index is not available on line.

However some Record Offices ( Cheshire) do have an index on line and you can purchase wills direct from them. this is only Cheshire wills.

Hi

For wills up to 1858 try the section on Wills on Documents on line on the National Archives web site.

For post 1858 you'll probably need to access the probate index via you're nearest Record Office. It covers all England and Wales. Then you apply for a will. It costs £5 for post 1858 wills.

I'm sure Mary could add the link about getting a will once you have the information. Thanks Mary.
