1821 marriage - Prestwich, nr Bury

Post by ZED »

Hi All ~

Does anyone happen to know the contact details of whichever Record Office is likely to hold details of a marriage that took place in Prestwich, in 1821?
I obtained the date of the happy union from FamilySearch, but there's no mention of a church.

Bestest,
Paula.

Hi Paula,

At a guess, I would say Manchester. Try googlin Manchester city council, the site hopefully would say what records are held there.

Hi Paula, as civil registration started Sept 1837 the marriage record will not be available via a registration district .

Yo need to find the most likley church at which the marriage took place as it may be recorded in the Parish registers .

www.genuki.org.uk has a page for Prestwich Churches and Records .

Hope this helps

Doreen

At a guess for a possible church records to look for I would go for Prestwich St Mary, their records are at Oldham.

Hi

Lancashire Record office at Preston have a copy of the BTs which has marriages up to 1836

Manchester Central Library Local Studies Unit have the registers on film. They also hold the originals.

Hi
Just in case you need it for earlier research, you can flip through Prestwich Parish registers here

Ok Mary, will do :D can't take the credit though, got it from someone else on another forum

Haven't quite got the hang of it yet  but if you click on the 'subject' on the link I gave, where it says 'Registers of birth etc' it will take you to a search page. If you then key a county e.g Hampshire after the 'etc' bit in the search box it will give the registers for that area. Sure there will be an easier way but haven't had much chance to play yet
