Sunnybank Orphanage, Arnside and Hostel of Hope, Liverpool

Hello all, I posted a couple of years ago and got some interesting information but have now hit another brick wall. I am searching for information on the Sunnybank orphanage in Arnside, Cumbria and the Hostel of Hope which is linked to 140 Bedford Street and 47 Colebrook Road in Liverpool.
My grandfather, William Albert Posthlethwaite (later Nicholls), was adopted from the Hostel of Hope in 1912. His mother is listed as Annie Elizabeth Postlethwaite of 156 Garmoyle Road, Toxteth in 1912. She was working as a Domestic at Spring Bank, Laurel Road, Fairfield.
I am interested in how Annie Elizabeth ended up giving up my grandfather and how the Hostel of Hope became involved.
Any help or ideas would be greatfully received.
Simon Bailes.
