Hi
A member recently posted details of a Liverpool-born George FEARNS who was living with his family in Llanbeblig, Carnarvonshire, in the mid-1800's.
Should it be of any interest to this member I have just received a copy certificate for my ggg-grandfather's second marriage :-
Llanbeblig, Carnarvonshire
14 October 1844
By Licence
Thomas FEARNS, of full age, widower, occupation master mariner, residence No 1 Dale Street, Liverpool, father Joseph FEARNS, master mariner,
and
Ellin DAVIES, of full age, spinster, residence Bangor Street, Carnarvon, father Thomas DAVIES, painter.
Witnesses were Captain William DAVIES, spirit dealer, and Margaret EVANS.
The groom was baptised Thomas Collins FEARN on 3 July 1810 in Brixham, Devon, eldest son of Josiah FEARN and Sarah COLLINGS (from the IGI).
His first marriage (as Thomas FEARON) was to an Ann RAMSEY, on 3 August 1829 in Liverpool St Nicholas (also from IGI).
Thomas and Ann (Ramsey) FEARN's daughter Sarah Ann FEARN (b1831 Liverpool) married my gg-grandfather William MARTINDALE on 23 April 1850 in Liverpool St Peter (certificate).
Thomas FERNS, fisherman, aged 56, was found drowned in Carnarvon Harbour on 6 January 1867. (Information received from Ed Griff POWELL, coroner for the county of Carnarvon. Inquest held 7 January 1867).
Less than two years earlier, on 15 January 1865, my gg-grandfather's youngest brother Peter MARTINDALE (b1840 Liverpool) and his cousin James MARTINDALE (b1819 Liverpool) were amongst seven men drowned in the River Mersey when the Liverpool No 1 lifeboat capsized whilst attempting to rescue passengers & crew of the Confederate American vessel LELIA which had sunk in a storm in Liverpool Bay on her maiden voyage.
James MARTINDALE had been master of both the No 1 and No 2 Liverpool lifeboats since 1852.
