Likely place of burial.

Exciting news today.....got William Lindsay's death certificate! Yes, he's definitely mine! If he was C of E, died in the Newsham General Hospital 1957 and lived in Buckingham Street can anyone hazard a guess at where he'd be laid to rest? Or where I can find out!

Hi PJ , Google it and it comes up off Gt Homer Street, and I would guess William would be in Kirkdale Cemetary,Long Lane,Fazackerley or at least that is where my family from the same area are buried, Records are held by Liverpool Record Office I believe, but lot's of searchable info i.e phone numbers and address's for the record office and the cemetary are on the internet, in recent searches done by my cousin when he was up there on my behalf he said they were more than helpful. Cheers from a snowed in Oxfordshire, Liverbird :)

Good Morning "Snowed in Oxford"........you trying to make me jealous? The only darn place in the country not to get a bucketfull - US! I am green with envy! Thanks so much for the info and I'll have a good root later when the old folk have left (Mum and Dad) I'd not even considered that one as the lady at the records office suggested Anfield or West Derby. I'm on a roll now with Grandad's side of the family and learning loads each day. Amazing what we don't know about our beginnings eh? Take care of yourselves in the frozen south! Pauline x

Hi Doe, think I'm going to have to make a few phone calls - or brace myself for a trip to the records office. Never done anything like that before and would need serious help to understand it all! I might even drive over and wander round the said burial grounds. Thanks for the suggestion. Pauline.

Hi Doe, unfortunately the name rings no bells. Shame! I've had so much good stuff the past day or so that I'm still reeling over it all. Most important is the fact that I can say for definite that William Lindsay born Liverpool Dec 14th 1870 to James and Mary (nee Weir) IS mine! Where the heck they were after that.......pass! Even though William married Annie on Dec 25th 1891 I can't find any of the Lindsay family on that years census - England or Scotland. James was a "sugar baker" so wondered if he was involved with Tate or MacFie during the 1870's. Hence a move down from Port Glasgow. Ho hum.......more challenges! x

Hi Doe, only a few I'm afraid. William married Annie Parkinson Dec 25th 1891. Surviving offspring included my dear old grandad, John. Along with Margaret, Isabella, Annie, William James and Phoebe. Annie died 1911 and William remarried to Ellen Eadie 1920. William's parents were James and Mary (nee Weir) Got their marriage cert from Scotland's people. Gets confusing when the names are repeated through generations! Think I'm ploughing along nicely with loads of help from the super-forum! I just get stuck when I need a nudge in the right direction. Get waylaid looking at maps and occupations as I go!

Yes, it took me long enough - but I've finally found where the old b****r is laid to rest. Had some help from a lovely lady yesterday at the LRO (Thanks Margaret) William Lindsay at Anfield! I have the section and plot number so went for a lookie in the tiddling rain ......to no avail. Map in the post from another kind person. I have a sneaky suspicion there's no headstone so no more information to be found in that area. What a lovely cemetery!

What a great result at last! Anfield is too large to go searching without a plan.

hello pj

you have the plot and number ,can I suggest you go to the crem part of anfield cem ,its next door to the cem ,go to the right of the church and at the back there is a small office ,not the one by the gate usually there is at least one grave digger there who can take you to the spot , they have a huge map on the wall,so no problem for them
good luck lets know how you get on

Cheers Doe....think I may hang on for another death cert to arrive to see if this other chap is in the same place. I'd wander happily in Anfield for hours - very peaceful and SO much interesting stuff to browse. Am I odd?

I've heard the name Lindsay cause a few problems in the past, once with a lady who used to attend the monthly society meetings, I think her bugbear was a Robert from memory. Unfortunately I haven't seen her there for a while so can't ask her to look at your posts to see if there is a connection.

Second best option though - have you checked down the Surname List on the Society page to see if anybody else is searching for them?

Thanks Mary.......there are grandchildren out there somewhere from William's offspring - I'm sure one of them will know his roots. I'm just not convinced I'm on the right track with the route I've taken. My William could have been born anywhere from 1870 until 1876 according to ages given on census returns, army call up, marriage and death certs. I may have to resort to an appeal in the Post and Echo. Hopes of a clue on a headstone have been dashed. Never give up eh!!!!
