Hi All,
I’m hoping there are some members that can point me in the right direction. After my dad died my sister gave me some of his photo’s etc. In amongst them was a National Service Grade Card. My dad never mentioned doing National Service. So to my question is it possible to obtain his records associated with his examination. His registration number was LLB70339; his grade was 3.

Hi Dave, I wish I could be more positive but I'm assuming you are looking at WWII records and these aren't as plentifully available as those for WWI, alhtough there are some. We would help with a few searches if you would care to give us some dates and name, otherwise I think it would mean applying for them, there will be a cost of, I think it's gone up to about £30 now. Thanks for your reply. The records I’m looking for are not the war records but the National Service records I believe all eighteen year olds had to register for this service were they spent a couple of years in the army etc. My dad was born in 1931 so he would have been eighteen in 1949.

If he did serve in the armed forces his records will still be with the MoD. In principle you could apply for a copy but you would need to know which branch of the services he was in.

I'm guessing it's possible that with a medical grade of 3 he may not have been accepted for service.

Bertieone I’ve checked out the link it gave me some insight into military service. Retiringtype I believe you are right grade 3 probably made my dad exempt from national service probably the reason he never mentioned it.
