Harrison Family, Heath St. Liverpool

Post by colinlloyd »

My family lived in Heath off Myrtle st. My GT Grandad Harrison Lloyd lived with his wife (Edith nee Barnes) at number 15 They had 9 children.3 died in tragic circumstances .Freddy 16 yrs killed in a ship docked in Uruguay on his first voyage.Edith aged 3 yrs died in a fatal fall .And the youngest boy George was killed in a traffic accident on Myrtle st aged 9yrs
Of the 6 surviving children 2 of my maiden great aunt's( Mildred and Lizzie) stayed in number 15 until being rehoused in the 60's My great uncle Harry lived in number 19? with his family .My own Grandmother lived in 27 Heath st ,and my aunty Betty lived in 29.I was born in Oxford st maternity hospital and spent the first 3 yrs of my life in my Grandma's house.Due to a massive regeneration of the area Heath street was demolished in the early 1960's Upto the time of being rehoused My brothers and I visited Heath st most weekends.Helping with the weekly shop on Myrtle street.I have tried in vain to find some pictorial evidence of Heath st (using the resources of the Library and Liverpool university archives) with no success. The gore directory shows some 40 something addresses on Heath street,so surely some photo's must still exist......Does anyone out there have them hidden away?

Hi Colin and welcome to the forum. You have resurrected a very old post, but perhaps it has been of some use to you.

It seems that you have checked the Engineer's photographs at the Library, but there are people who have a collection of photographs of their own and are willing to share, if none of our members on here have any, then I would suggest Facebook where a few of the Groups specialise in Liverpool old photographs, such as I Love Liverpool The City, Yo Liverpool, Liverpool Hidden History and if you put "Liverpool" in the search box at the top of the page you will no doubt come up with some others.

Hi Collin,

Only the householder will show in the directories, not the children or other family members.

What years are you interested in, we can look on Ancestry amongst the directories and Electoral rolls.

If you haven't got Ancestry, there are some Liverpool Directories here,

Harrison doesn't show in the 1911 directory for Heath Street, compiled late 1910, or on the 1910 Electoral Roll, however he is at 15 Heath St, 1911 census.

It gives a rough indication when he moved from his previous address.

Bert, Yes this is bang on ,Chipping street was the coal yard My Gt uncle Alf took over from his Dad (Harrison Lloyd) Though GT grandad started with a horse and cart ,Alf was motor driven by the time my time came.Though the yard was the same.looking at the dates you have supplied and census evidence. Our family "word of mouth" history is about 6 years out.Harrison died the year I was born 1951.Alfred had the business through to the time I was a young man
Because of the regeneration of the Myrtle st area all the Lloyd Heath st residents were rehoused. My grandmother Janet White .My aunty Betty Lloyd went to Childwall Valley high rise flats. The surviving GT Aunts Liz and Mildred Lloyd of no 15 dispatched to a flat in the Dingle Harry number 17 to Speke.Alf the coal man kept the yard till he retired also moved to the Dingle.....And the Lloyds of Heath Street were no more.Thank you once more Your help Bert
Regards Colin Lloyd of Rainhill
