Hi all, still looking for the elusive Clifford Smith relative of my wife. I have a copy wedding certificate of his son and on it Clifford is shown in 1937 as being a Director of an undertaker's furnishers. I am pretty certain this was in Birkenhead or nearby, but the name escapes me for now.

Are there any company records available that would give me a bit more information about the elusive rascal?

Was he Clifford Geoffrey Smith, undertaker, of 13 Bridle Road, Eastham, Wirral (per Kelly's 1938 directory) ? Have you found him in the 1939 register?

Here he is shown as Undertakers agent,
83 Wye St appears to be only occupied by Dora May, 1935 Electoral Roll.

I have found him in 1939 living in Llandudno with his son Walter William Smith. Dora May Smith is his daughter.

His name was Clifford Walter Smith. I think I have come across the entry for Clifford George Smith before. Apologies, I have just found a scribble of paper I was looking for that was written by my wife's elderly aunt, and grandaughter of Clifford, who everyone hated. She said he worked with horses at Linacre's in Kirkdale, possibly Stanley Road.

I have him(I think) in 1920 living at 23 Candia Street Kirkdale. He died at Westminster Homes in 1951 having been there since 1949. The inbetween bits are murky, but Bert's certificate again shows him working as an undertaker, so between 1935 as an agent and 1937 he became a Director maybe - he seemed to be a little economical with the truth sometimes, especially when it came to marriages!
