Ford cemetery record
Ford cemetery record
Hi all, I am trying to help someone in America on Findagrave. I had found the plot at Ford cemetery on Ancestry which is grave 254. This must be public but where in the cemetery is it/ Not sure if it is section X Public?
http://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2287 ... =110721568
The record is here https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/21 ... PUBJs=true
I found another burial record on Ancestry showing the grave as AS 737. Not sure what the reference to 254 is on the other page though?

Re: Ford cemetery record
Sorry Bert, the record is page 155 of the Liverpool, England, Catholic Burials, 1813-1985 for James Hoey, Ford Cemetery 1900-1904. His record is 2nd from bottom on the right hand side.

Re: Ford cemetery record
Thanks, John,
On this record where he is recorded as James Hoy, it looks like "ditto A" 254.

Thanks Bert. I have also found the following and wondering if this must be a different person, and in a different grave?

Re: Ford cemetery record
Sorry to say that I believe it will be in the X Public area, note the numbers above and afterwards, they are all without an area noted and will be public graves.

Re: Ford cemetery record
Thanks Mary, although the James Hoey on page 226 buried 22nd May as mentioned above is in AS 737. The 2 men must be different but have the same name and died within a few weeks of each other, unless one was James Hoy and not Hoey?

Re: Ford cemetery record
What is the general consensus, only public graves are in the public section X ?
If the above is an "A", there are 11 burials between 21 July and 4 August in 254.

Re: Ford cemetery record
I think very often I would go by the grave numbers. If they run one after the other then I suspect they will be general graves, and it may be on the next few pages you might get the same number again reused. See the number of burials in 247 and mainly children, so they are all in the same grave. Don't think they could possibly be private graves.
Checking the map though, I'm not sure which section is plain A, rather than Asomething. - Oh! I've spotted it, it's over on the right, unexpected place when the other A's were on the left.

Re: Ford cemetery record
I'm thinking "A" was a public area, it's an area with multiple burials per grave and "A" ditto is only interrupted by a private burial.
Seems to me moving forward through the pages.

Re: Ford cemetery record
A is definitely public, and at the farthest corner of the site. I agree that the page on Ancestry is a list of public burials there interrupted by a private one.
I am a plonker. I have just realised that the James Hoey buried in AS 737 was interred in 1923 and not 1902. Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase. No idea why I typed that date. I'm just waiting to hear back from the person on Findagrave but just reread their request. States that burial was 23rd July 1902 and both Ancestry entries (one stating Hoey and one Hoy) say he died in Liverpool workhouse and buried in (A) 254.
Will have to go back and say that there will be no headstone
