Right I have a big problem.
James Pendleton and Elizabeth "Eliza" Gray had 6 children. They lived at 57 Park Street Bootle. In 1911 they put all 6 children in the census (all with the surname Pendleton) They said Margaret b 1884 Bootle (West Derby) was married 2 years with 0 children. (Source Citation
Class: RG14; Piece: 22441) I have found a marriage for 2 Margaret Pendletons 1) West Derby 1906 to William Dimber or Dimler 2) 1907 West Derby to John Tyrer. I have also found another 1911 census, also Bootle, for Margaret Dimler (mistranscribed as b c 1886 who had been married 5 years with 2 children. Are these the same person ??

Her brother Thomas b 1886 is also down as married on the family's census in 1911. It says he has been married but no time or children mentioned. I have found another census for a Thomas Pendleton with Mary Elizabeth formerly Hind, in Recreation St. Bootle. They had been married for 1 year with 1 child. Looking back from this they married in 1910 West Derby and it appears she was a widow nee Evans. (Step children on census)

Is it possible that the parents put all 6 children down, even if they did not live there.

Absolutely, I got quite a shock when I saw my great grandfather's census entry, he was living alone yet listed all his children, there were a couple I hadn't known about and one who I thought might have died as a child in Ireland, but I found out a lot about him and his family after this clue.

Yes and James Pendleton, snr, has misunderstood the question?

Sight of the marriage cert needed to be absolutely sure, what is in favour, James Pendleton,19, was a Butchers assistant, William Dimler was a Butcher.

Thanks. I had not come across that type of error in the census return before. Why did they think she had only been married 2 years and 0 children, when the Maragaret I found had been married since 1906 and had 2 children.

There wasn't a marriage, Liverpool/West Derby in 1909, Margaret Pendleton.

Perhaps that was another mistake and he meant 2 children born, none died?

No certs available online for either of the children, what is available show Thomas having a father, James. Like his possible father he's a Carter.

Not conclusive proof though, need sight of the certs.

They are ot my direct line ancestors, but are blood related. Perhaps I'll wait until there is a DNA link with the family.

Gives father as James, which is correct. I think I will go with that. As he is still in Bootle on the 1911 census with his wife and step children and mother in law.
