Burial at Ford Cemetery, 1920

Post by daggers »

I am trying to trace the death of Mary Ann McDonald, born about 1847, and alive at the 1911 census at Ottley Street, Fairfield. I have found a registration in Q3, 1920, Liverpool which seems to fit with a burial at Ford Cemetery in August that year, with an age recorded as 73 years. This came from the Ancestry burials. The only other clues are the number 'RD1225' and an address 19 Flaxman Street.
Are there likely to be any other clues if I look in the Central Library please?

Sorry but it's highly unlikely since the entry you have found will be from the burial register.

Thanks for those replies. Mary had a son Charles, so it may be worth a punt on a death cert.

If you can wait until Monday I will pop into Crosby library and check the records. It should have the address and who else is in the grave.

Clincher! No need for the cert now. Thanks all round, but the others in the grave could also be helpful, so yes, please, JohnnyO.

Hi, I called in to the library at lunchtime.

Grave owner is Charles McDonald. Only interment in that grave is Mary Ann, 19 Flaxman Street, age 73 and interred on 16th August 1920.

Confused, are Ancestry transcribing as burial records that aren't,

Burial Date:
19 Aug 1920

The quote section above, is that a record of the grave owner and not the burial?

Hi Bert, maybe that is when Mr McDonald paid for the grave, being the owner on record?

Thanks, John,

It appears Ancestry are recording and transcribing records that are not burials, under the heading of burials, bum steer springs to mind.

I've done a check of the people around Charles McDonald's 19 August so called burial date and none have been registered as deceased.

Guess I'm lucky as none of my family are buried at Ford, those that have perhaps should take another look.

Interesting! I looked on FreeBMD and found no death registration for Charles in that quarter, so ANC may be confusing us all.
This is the first time I have become involved with Ford cemetery and did not think it would be so confusing.
Thanks to forumites for your interest.

Not sure if you've tried this yet but the kind lady in this Roots Chat post (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.p ... 651292.927) will do a grave lookup for you in Ford Cemetery. I've asked her about a couple of family graves -so she may be able to help out.

Thanks again. JohnnyO, if you have time and there is a break in the rain, could you look at RD1225 and get a photo if there is a headstone?

I've often noticed the two different pages for Ford burials, never have realised what the difference was. I think I would agree that it would be the purchaser of the grave since the price is given and also on some of the earlier pages the address wasn't completed. Thanks for bringing this to my notice.
