I have found records of a relative who was admitted to the Liverpool Workhouse (Brownlow Hill) in 1877 and have been trying to read the headings of the various columns in the register. There are two I am struggling with -
1. under the columns for numbers of Men, Boys, Women and Girls there is a heading which appears to read Born. Does this refer to children born in the Workhouse?
2. the 3rd column from the right - Observations on condition at time of admittance. Name of Relations liable under ???? of Elizabeth. Does anyone know what word in front of Elizabeth is or means?

Unfortunately I can't find an appropriate entry for a Liverpool workhouse so looked at one for London that might give similar results. Generally speaking "Born" would mean their year of birth as in the page I looked at there was a separate entry for date admitted.

I think it does mean born in the workhouse or infirmary.

The numbers recorded at the top of the page below headings appear to be carried over from the previous page, the numbers recorded at the bottom of the page are of those persons on the page itself.

At the bottom of the page, if for example a figure is in the born column, a dash or 1 appears next to a new born.

A good example is on the next page from the link, born column starts with 3 and ends with 6, 3 dashes in the column for new born.

Now I've seen that example I agree, the other I was looking at was a totally different page and layout.

Many thanks for all the replies. I Googled 43rd Elizabeth and found that it refers to the 43rd year of the reign of Elizabeth (1601) when the law was passed.
I don't have access at home to FindmyPast, where these workhouse records are located, so I will do a bit more digging around the records regarding Born (in the workhouse) when I next get the chance.
If I may be permitted a personal observation - why did I hate History in school? It's fascinating when you look into it.
