Look-ups / Advise please

I am looking at a Marriage certificate for a marriage in 1839 between HENRY HOBSON and HANNAH DICKESON - Date 3 Feb 1839.
I know something of the family after that, but my questions relate to the fathers of the Groom and Bride.
The father of the Groom is recorded as WILLIAM HOBSON - Occupation = Auctioneer
I am trying to establish whether he may have had his own business in Liverpool at that time ????
The father of the Bride is recorded as FREDERICK DICKESON - Occupation = Hatter
Again I trying to establish whether he had his own business at that time
I do know that the DICKESON family moved to Liverpool from London sometime in the last 1820s/early 1830s
Where might I look to try and resolve these questions?
Any help or pointers wold be much appreciated
Many thanks
Lancsman

Nice one Bert!
Unfortunately I've checked some of the directories I have copies of between 1825-1843 but had no luck coming across a Frederick Dickeson (or variations)

There's a Frederick Dickeson, Hatter, with wife Susan and children, Southwark, Surrey, England, 1841.
If same, no mention of him in directories in that area. If they came to Liverpool, did they return to Surrey?

WOW !!- What an incredible response.
I just popped back onto the computer after something to eat and saw there had been some replies.
Thank you both for your efforts, they are much appreciated.
The information has really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons - in respect of what we had understood from research done some years ago by myself and other relatives.
Firstly on the DICKESON name - we had always understood the family had remained in Liverpool - but with the 1841 Census data you have pointed me to - I can now see a return to London is a distinct probability. There is also a death recorded for a Frederick Dickeson in 1850 in London, with a family in the 1851 census showing his wife (as a widow) and children. I now need to look for the rest of the family to verify this.....and probably another look at the early 1800 data through the period before Hannah married William Hobson.
On the HOBSON side, another shock. Again all previous research across the family has been built on the basis of the HOBSON name being firmly based in Liverpool, until much later - with the move of a William HOBSON (b. 1839) - married to Harriet GRIFFITHS in Childwall 1864, moving to Manchester/Salford area in the 1860s., from which I ultimately descend.
The Directory entry/image showing an address in Bridge St Manchester (presumably for his business) opens up another gaping hole in our knowledge.
Given I spent the first 28 years of my life living in Manchester I cannot begin to think just how many times I must have passed that address.
It is also interesting that the press notice of William HOBSONs death in 1822 in Manchester presumably, is listed in the Liverpool Mercury.
More research required on this also.
Time to calm down, put the kettle on and spend the rest of the evening with strong coffee and a bar or two of chocolate laying out all my research papers for these families and make a list (probably a long one) on what needs to be done and the sequence needed to put this back together correctly. It could be a long winter !!!
Thank you both again for your effort.
I will let you know how I get on.
