1955 Accident

Post by Smudge3 »

Looking for some information on the death of Edward Smith born July 1918 and his daughter Jean born 1942 in Liverpool. I was told when I was much younger that they were both killed in a car crash on the East Lancashire road. I know they both died together on the 30th July 1955. I am trying to find some information on the accident but no joy. I also wonder why their deaths where registered in Chapel-en-le frith Derbyshire, Buxton Administration. The wife and mothers name Jessie Victoria Smith (Maiden name Webster). Any information on the accident would be much appreciated. Smudge

Yes there's also a brief report in the Lancashire Evening Post of 31 October 1955. They were passengers in a car driven by John Charles Duke. The car hit a tree on the Macclesfield Road near Buxton. Duke survived but his brother Charles was also killed. Jessie Smith received lacerations but survived.

Sorry I can't get the text any clearer, a better copy might be on microfilm at the library. Download to your computer and zoom in to see it larger.
