CURRIE Family

Hi,
I am new to this forum, and would welcome any help regarding my Currie ancestors. I have information on them from 1821 in Lasswade,, Midlothian, then from 1844 from Tonbridge and Bromley area in Kent, then back to Cheshire/Lancashire area from 1872,
I believe the following folk have connection to my tree.

Annie Ainslie Ardrey nee Currie b. Lasswade, Midlothian, c.1842, daughter of Thomas Currie and Ann Scott.....The 1901 census shows Annie living on her own means with her daughter Mildred Smith, at 68 Dalton Road, Barrow In Furness.

The Longworth family,,,,, W. Derby
The Reeve family..... Liverpool N.
Both the Longworth & Reeve families had children with the birth mother’s maiden name as Currie.

George Slack from Doncaster who married in Accrington in 1937 to Marjorie Currie, daughter of John Currie & Alice Bailey. The Slack's moved to Bromley in Kent c.1938. George Slack, a previous Boxer, ran a Butcher shop in Bromley, their daughter, Mahala Sandra Slack, was born in 1940 in Bromley, Kent.

Thank you in advance for any help given.

Hi and welcome,

Can you be more specific with what you need help with? or do you just need Currie connections to hopefully get in touch?

Hi Bertieone,

Thank you for responding to my query,

I think at the moment I just need Currie connections, in the hope that someone will know, or know of, a person who may have a link to my family. I can then decide how to continue.

I have a lot of information on this family from the year 1800 to when Annie Ainslie Currie married John Ardrey in 1878, at Tonbridge, Kent, they were both Basket Makers; Sometime after their marriage they moved north to Lancashire.

Annie Ainslie Currie's brother, John, was in the paper making trade, and moved north from Tonbridge in 1872 to Hyde in Cheshire after the death of his father, Thomas Currie, who was my G.G. Grandfather. I realise now that i should have mentioned that in my query.

Kind regards,
Janeesca.

HI and welcome, Bert has beaten me to the obvious question.

I would suggest that you spread your enquiry further afield, check forums and facebook groups that also cover Lancashire and Cumbria as well as Liverpool.

A bit confused here.

John Robert Tooth ARDREY married Annie Ainsley CURRIE at Tonbridge on 26th March 1868 (NOT 1878). He is a shoe maker NOT a Basket Maker, although his father is a Basket Maker.

In 1871 they are in Tonbridge with son Frank Edward 2
In 1881 they are in St Giles in the Field London with Frank E 12;Mildred A 9 and Mabel E 1.
In 1891 they are still in St Giles and children are now 22,19 and 11 respectively.
By 1901 Annie (a Widow) is in Barrow in Furness in the home of Mildred and her husband Charles Smith and their family.
In 1911 they are all Charles, Mildred and family AND Annie, back in East Dulwich London

John (Annie's husband) appears to have died in July-September 1894 aged 53 (Pancras 1b 25).

They do NOT appear to have moved to Lancashire sometime after their marriage. John died in London and Annie's only connection with Barrow appears to be that her daughter Mildred is living there in 1901 with her husband, Charles Smith, who is a Chemist shop owner/manager.

Can you help me understand? Was it maybe Annie's father Thomas that moved to Cheshire/Lancashire?

Alex
