Atherton family

Hi, again. I cannot find Clara Atherton b 1883 all in Liverpool (or West Derby), Her mother was Catherine Alice Atherton and father died in 1886. I would like to find her in the 1891 census. She might be in the Liverpool Sheltering Home as she was sent to Canada with Miss Birt in 1893 and her 2 slightly older sisters were sent in 1889.
Thanks

Lynne,
I couldn't get a sniff on Clara for the 1891 census, so, no idea if she was in a home or with another family and recorded as a part of that family under a different name or daughter, etc.
I looked at about 6 other children with easy searchable names she travelled with, it appears none of those children were recorded in a home during the 1891 census. I didn't go further and check if their parents were deceased between 1891 and travelling.

If there are any registers still in existence for the schools/homes you are interested in, they will be held at the Liverpool Record Office. If you have no luck searching the online catalogue, write to them via the contact button and ask the question, you'll receive an answer that way.

Are those your notes on the one name study?

I don't think so. I did dabble a bit , but put notes on the Godsoe family. The record office came up with nothing , so I am no further forward. Thanks Barbara. If you could direct me to look at the notes that would be great.

Are any of them "my" Atherton family. They came into my family by marriage of John Dawson Atherton, 1843, Liverpool. He married my Great grand mother's sister , Catherine Alice Harvey b 1847 Birmingham and then moved to Liverpool with her family and siblings before 1861 census.
It would be lovely if there was a connection

Lynne,
My first contact is 2nd great grandmother, Ellen Atherton, 19 May, 1824, Kirkby, daughter of Robert Atherton/Betty Fleetwood.
Never did find a marriage for her, though haven't looked again for some years, she lived over the brush with Thomas Clapham.
Just looked at the link Barbara posted, wasn't aware of it, either both of us are correct or both wrong
