Hi all, I called in to Allerton cemetery yesterday evening to try and find the grave stone of one of my Orretts.

I know that he is buried in Consecrated section 2, grave 33, which I presumed to be Roman Catholic, but after an hour of fruitless searching, I gave up. I have the image below

Can't get the links to work, was he Catholic? consecrated just means, Sacred, many religions would have consecrated ground.

Hi Bert, thanks as always for the response, and apologies that the links didn't work. The two were the cemetery map and Roman Catholic Section 2 and 4.

It was the Roman Catholic 2 and 4 that I looked in, based on the 'R' blocks on the big map, which do not really correspond to the plot plan. I had a look in CH2, which is adjacent to R1 and R2, but could not see a grave. The site where I got the record (can't remember offhand) just says Consecrated 2 grave 33. Whether that could include C/E 2 or CH 2H, 2E etc on the bottom left of the map as shown on screen, goodness knows.

Con = Church of England
Gen = Non-Conformist
RC = Roman Catholic

Thanks Blue. I got the details of the grave from the Burial records book at Central Library. There are a couple of different grave types, public, private and one that looks like subset or similar, which is what my ancestor is in.

Looking at the map that Bert posted, if my relative is is Co of E 2 33, there are a lot of C/E 2, with letters after and same with CH. I'm going on the basis that R is Roman Catholic, Gen is General, C/E is Church of England, but not sure what CH is

Ch is another way of saying Church of England. Con, Ch, C/E, C of E refer to the same division of burials in the cemetery. R or RC is Roman Catholic. Gen or N/C is the same division.

Thanks Blue. I will concentrate my search on the CH2 and C/E 2 sections just off Woolton Road. The burial record only says C22 but happy to explore. It also states 'Subsqt' rather than private or public alongside the grave details. I presume this means that it is an additional interment?
