Cressington Hotel 8 Aigburth Road

Hi, it appears some of my Orretts were licenced victuallers and according to Kelly's Directory and 1881 census were in the above hotel in 1881. Would that mean that they were landlords (or landlady in this case!)? A couple of the children were bar staff.
There does not appear to be much information about the hotel apart from the fact it was knocked down.

).
Thanks for posting.

The cutting is not dated, but it was probably before Garston came into the city. An official licensing book dated 1909 tells us that the Cressington had a billiard room with two tables, 7 rooms for domestic purposes, and was owned by R. Cain, later Walker Cain. Sadly the name of the licensee at that time is not recorded.
I never entered it but spent time opposite, waiting for Footie Echoes to be delivered. It and it’s neighbouring pub were swept away, probably for road widening. 1950s?

Thanks Daggers. There is a page in the 1883 Commercial Gazette listing Eliza as victualler at the hotel, in the England & Wales Bills of Sale section, with a column 'In whose favour' and stating Robert Blezard & another, with an amount of £683. Could be bankruptcy?
I lose Eliza after the 1881 census. I have seen her gravestone in Toxteth Park stating date of death as Jan 1902, but cannot find a death registration strangely. Her son who was barman is a visitor in the Isle of Man according to their 1911 census, occupation victualler. Another of Eliza's daughters is also on the island. Maybe they moved over there after they had to leave the hotel. More research needed! He is also in the family grave at Toxteth Park.
Looking at a picture on Flickr, it may have been demolished in 1964 for road widening as you say.

Thanks Bert, tying up this part of the family now. A couple of daughters married brothers on the IOM and are in the 1911 census records there.

Blezard was a brewery company, which I think was taken over by Walker’s.

Thanks Daggers, that makes sense. Looking at some old photos, it looked quite a big established residence.
