Hi, I popped in to Melling church today to see a grave of one of my Orrett mob .

It has the date of death for Margaret Orrett as 2nd Jan 1842, aged 6.

GRO has a death for Margaret Orrett registered Dec 1841 age 5 in West Derby. Is it feasible that as the date of death was so near the end of the previous year that it might have been included in the previous quarter, even allowing for the time for the family to register it? I can't see any other name variation similar around that time.

Perhaps sight of the death certificate would be handy, perhaps the headstone has the date of burial by mistake?

The burial date was 2 January per the register of St Thomas's.

I did check an image of the register page!

Brilliant work, thanks both, so assume the poor thing died in December.

The speed of burial at that time, very likely the death was the very end of December.
