looking for information on watermen from the Widnes area, how would you go about tracing them.

The first link down the page is supported on the website of the Ormskirk FHS and appear quite knowledgeable. I think you might get a lot more informed help from them than we may be able to give you.

the person I am interested in, his occupation on boatfamilies is waterman,mariner,coal manager,and stevedore, which just about covers everything
Hambleton Mason b1818 liscard Wirral, all his children born Widnes.
