Netherton/Buckley Hill Map Enquiry

Hello,

Does anyone know whether this part of Netherton (Buckley Hill) appears on any other historical maps, such as the Molyneux Estate Map of 1769 or the Tithe Map of Netherton from 1845? Copies of these are currently held at the Lancashire Record office LRO DDM 14/47 and LRO DRL 1/55. Being somewhat distanced from the centre of the hamlet, how far back did settlement extend in this part of the parish?

Hi and welcome to the forum. I think you would need to ask the LRO or even the Liverpool RO a direct question on their holdings, meanwhile there's a chance you might find something useful online and we have a collection of links you could try viewtopic.php?f=14&t=16208

Hi. Thanks Mary, I think that will be a good starting point. The maps I have access to currently dating back to 1818 (Greenwood) and 1830 (Hennet) and although they do not show the area in sufficient detail, it is clear that there were buildings established around the crossroads formed by Gorsey Lane, Moss Lane, Fleetwood Lane and Edge Lane. The 1st edition ordnance survey map also depicts a number of gardens and orchards extending along these roads and Buckley Hill Lane. What a contrast to today! Kind regards, Ollie
