Sinclair family, Fern Grove, Liverpool (WW1 era)

I am trying to find more about William Sinclair, a junior officer in a Liverpool Pals battalion (18th) who died on service in France on 18 Oct 1916 and is named on the large Thiepval Memorial to the missing. His father was evidently F.W. Sinclair, and the address given on the War Graves register was 34 Fern Grove, Sefton Park. I have not managed to find either in the 1911 census or elsewhere, and the military records are thin. The 'Liverpool Pals' book lists him as born in Hull.
Any more clues would be most welcome.

Yes, Francis/Frank was a younger brother who was with the Great Western Railway for a short time, but married in Berkshire and leaves no trace of a later occupation. Still, William was the one I was interested in and it is all too easy to gallop off into another pursuit.
Thanks again, Bert.
