Liverpool Photographers

Post by lynne99 »

Hi, I have some photos of my relatives and would like to date them. Has any one any idea when the Bobs Studio was operating and when The American Studio in Bold St stopped working, it started in 1895. Thanks Lynne

Lynne,

Apparently, (Google) the address for the American Studio was 107a & 120a Bold St and Conway St, Birkenhead, they are not at Bold St in the following directories, 1900, 1911, 1938.

Perhaps their time in Bold St was short lived.

I also haven't been able to pin down the American Studios years of trading, however I have two photographs taken by them, grandmother and her niece and another of great grandparents. Years ago I thought I worked the date out as 1910, but I'm doubtful it was so late. The little girl in this picture was born in June 1897.

The advert on the back of one od the photos says " Established 1895
107a 120a Bold Street, 106 Cazneau Street and Conway Street Birkenhead."
They also copy and enlarge old and faded photographs.
I think it was taken about 1900 or 1902. My great grand mother is wearing all black, her huband died in 1899, but she also has a funny turban like hat on

There is an earlier photo of her taken about 1886 or 7 at "Bobs" Great George Place, Parker St and Walton Road. There is also a picture of a child aged about 3 or 4 . Sitting on a lamb rug but with shinny black boots on.

Is there a book or web site about dating photos that is useful?
Thanks
