Hi, This is my 1st time on this Forum, please can anyone help with my Brick Wall? I am looking for any info on my Gt. Grandparents James Conway and Julia Kinsella. I have their Marriage cert, they married on 14/5/1892, at Low House Chapel, St.Helens, Lancs. James was 34 yrs old, a Chemical Labourer, of 42, Victoria St, St.Helens, Lancs his father was also James Conway. Julia was 27yrs old, and living at 14, Lord St, St.Helens,Lancs her father was Denis Kinsella (deceased). I can trace James and Julia, both from Ireland, plus 2 sons James 7yrs and Thomas aged 5 (my Grandfather) on the 1901 Cencus, living at Fern St, St.Helens, Lancs. On the 1911 Cencus Julia is Head and still married (Not Widowed) with her 2 sons and daughter Mary aged 9 yrs. They live at 3, Thomas St, Garston. There is no sign of James and there are 2 children listed as having died. I have no info regarding James and Julia before their wedding, I have been unable to find any Irish info that fits. Any help or advice would be most welcome. Thanks Jacky

I am wondering if there is a connection with this Conway family in the 1881 census:
60 Morley Street, St Helens
James Conway 54 Chemical labourer born Ireland
Frances Conway Wife 60 born London
Joseph J Conway Son 21 Glass Cutter born St Helens
EDIT the son (James Joseph Conway) seems to have married in 1887 and can be accounted for in subsequent censuses. Frances Conway had a son James from a previous marriage (James McGlue) but he was born circa 1850 so doesn't fit the bill.

Dear Bertieone,
Many thanks for your help finding the 2 (Kinsella) children who had died. I probably just looked for them as Conway Children !! I shall know or another time. James was a Chemical Labourer on his marriage Cert.
I have found 2 Julia Kinsellas, on the "New York Passanger List 1820-1891" on Family Search.
The 1st Julia is age 16yrs and goes to NY, on the "Britannic" in 1880.
The 2nd Julia is age 18 yr and goes to NY, on the "City of Richmond" in 1881.
I don't know if this is the Julia I am looking for, the ages of both could fit. I can not find her having returned from NY, within 1880-1881. (I would not of thought, she would have the money to travel back and forth.)
Julia came from Co.Carlow, Ireland according to the 1911 Cencus and my Dads recollections. My Dad (now deceased) recalled James came from Sligo, Ireland. Many thanks for your help, it was quite exciting getting my 1st reply.

Jacky,
The occupations of the couples father's would be useful, James Conway (Senior) and Denis Kinsella, also names of witnesses on the marriage cert.
There doesn't appear to be a way of telling who the Julia Kinsella travelling to the states was.

Dear Bert,
On James and Julia's Marriage Cert, of 1892.
James (Snr) was a Farm Labourer. Denise Kinsella (deceased) was a General Labourer.
The Witnesses were Jos Farrell and Bridget O'Driscoll.
Once you had given me the names of the 2 dead children, I thought I would be able to find them myself, but I have searched everywhere, and still can't find them. Please could you tell me where and how to find them, so I can be more successful in my future searches.
Thank you for your help and patience. Regards Jacky.

Civil registration of births in Ireland began in 1864. Julia Kinsella may have been born just before then. You may be able to identify Kinsella children born just after 1864 with father 'Denis'; then check the appropriate Catholic Church baptism registers for a Julia.
For example; these children were born in Carlow:
Patrick; son of Denis Kinsella and Catherine Browne, born Boherduff, Carlow 1871
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/ ... 99310a.pdf
Bridget; daughter of Denis Kinsella and Anne Mills, born Rathcrogue, Carlow 1867
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/ ... 285145.pdf
Bridget; daughter of Denis Kinsella and Eliza Hagan, born Ballymacken, Carlow 1864
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/ ... 329613.pdf
***********
Carlow shares a border with Wexford. At the census of 1901, nearly 1100 of 2800 Kinsellas in Ireland were in these two counties. Example births in Wexford:
Cathrine; daughter of Denis Kinsella and Mary Brien, born Ballinagore, Wexford 1864
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/ ... 337840.pdf
Edward; son of Denis Kinsella and Catharine Byrne, born Ballinclare?, Wexford 1870
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/ ... 218782.pdf
James; son of Denis Kinsella and Anne Fannin, born Kilcorkey, Wexford 1870

Mary is the resident Wexford expert; she may be able to suggest some relevant parishes to search.

Some Irish Roman Catholic parishes used Latin for registration. You may want to search the various Latin versions of Julia and Denis.
As an example; here 'Dionisius' is used for Denis in Carlow in 1866:

Dear Luxor,
Many thanks for your help, advice and info, and recommended sites, to help me get over my longstanding Brick Wall. It is so frustrating to keep looking and relooking for people who you just can not find. Now I know where and how to start looking for these elusive Families, I feel hopeful, that I can finally track them down. Also the Latin translation was helpful too. I really appreciate your help, and help from other Members of this Site. What may seem like basic info to you, is really invaluable to someone like myself, who is trying to find this info and muddle through on their own.. Many many Thanks. Regards Jacky.

Dear Bertie one,
I have been having problems getting my posts sent, so sorry not to have replied sooner. Thank you so much for the advice about the GRO, I didn't realise it had this facility, I thought it was only for ordering Certificates.
This is going to be so helpful in my future searches, many thanks for your help. I do appreciate all the shared knowledge from everyone on this site. Regards Jacky.
