Alexander Wilson

Hi Bert
Getting really frustrated with this bit! My grandfather Alexander Wilson married my nan Margaret Sergison in 1931. They had 3 daughters Margaret (my mother), Mary and Ann. Family ancestry posts keep coming up with Alexander, same date of birth marrying a Jane Gallagher and Alexander dying in 1956! My grandfather died about 2006. My nan died about 1967 ish. I do not recall my mother ever mentioning Jane Gallagher. I traced my Great nan as a Sergison! They also mention in the same posts that his mother was Euphemia but again with Jane Gallagher! Can you please help. Lyh

You may already know Alexander's fathers name, if not you will need sight of his marriage cert to acquire status and fathers name.

Alexander Wilson/Margaret Sergison, 1931, registrar attended, Catholic marriage or Registry office.

There were 3 births, 1894 +/-1, Liverpool/ West Derby area.

Alexander Wilson, mothers maiden names, Cowie/Logan/Thompson

Alexander Wilson married Jane Gallagher, 1915 Liverpool, Parents, Henry James Wilson/Euphemia Cowie.

Alexander Logan Wilson, Parents, David Wilson/Isabella Logan

Have you tried to contact these posters? It's one of the reasons why we never rely on other's trees but to do our own research. One person may have Alexander as a distant cousin and taken a guess at the marriage and then others have copied it. On the other hand there could be something mysterious and he married twice?? but I would back up Bert's comment that you need the marriage certificate to be sure of any facts before proceeding.

same date of birth
What was his date of birth - that would help to pinpoint his birth registration.

Was he born in Liverpool or elsewhere? Where did he die

As the marriage was 1931 - there are only 2 Sergison births in a likely birth timescale - 1901 in Chester and Margaret Ann 1903 Toxteth Park
My nan died about 1967 ish
A 5yr search either side of 1967 only shows 1 Margaret Wilson death with a birthyear 1900-1904 in Liverpool and she was Margaret Alice Allen Anne Wilson

Did Margaret die in Liverpool or elsewhere? There is a Margaret Wilson death in 1966 in Birkenhead aged 63

My grandfather died about 2006
Using a rough birthdate the same as Margaret's shows no Alexander Wilson deaths between 2003-2007 in Liverpool or Cheshire

If Alexander was born around 1900-1903 he would have been over 100yrs old if he died in 2006

Don't know why I had 2006. He died in 1979. Re grandmother, she was buried in a paupers grave. Where do I find this registration in Liverpool ad nothing is coming up on my search. She died about 1967 +- a year. Born 1894. Lyh

There is no Margaret Sergison birth 1894 - please see freebmd http://www.freebmd.org.uk Where did you get this birthyear from?

That would make her 37yrs old when she married Alexander - quite "old" for a first marriage so I wonder if she was previously married.
I traced my Great nan as a Sergison!
You say Margaret Sergison was your grandmother

Does your mothers birth cert confirm her mothers maiden name as Sergison?

You really need to buy a copy of the 1931 marriage cert

There is only one Alexander Wilson death in Liverpool in 1979 - born 8.4.1902. If this is the right death - that would make Margaret 8yrs older than him if she was born 1894

This is the only death roughly matching the profile you give for Margaret

The 1966 death is likely to be this one, does the address ring any bells?

Hi Bert
The above is my nan. She was born 1903. She is listed as Sergeson in some searches so this threw me. But this is definitely her. How do I find a paupers grave. Are they registered? Also, I have ordered a marriage certificate re nan as there are a few Alexander Wilson's born around 1900 - 1906! I did not think Alexander was such a popular name around these times. Luckily they each have a different father's name on the birth indexes so I should become lucky on this one. Just need to ask you this next question. My Aunt Ann Wilson you listed above was born 1934. According to my mother telling me years ago, Ann 'disappeared' at age 16. Any suggestions on what I can look up? I find it quite unbelievable that her family have never (or wanted) to trace her. Trouble I am having is her name is so common. Any suggestion?

Lyh,

Paupers graves/Public graves are recorded as such in the burial registers (Cemeteries, Burial grounds, etc.)
I'm not aware of any specific register for Paupers graves only, though at one time, the Parish or Council must have had recordings of where the monies went(Undertakers) unlikely we will ever get to see them or if they still exist.

Ann's disappearance, being 16 in 1950, it would come as no surprise if the parents sent her away to have a baby, elopement, mixed race marriage, marrying outside of their religion.
What families disapproved of, the list could be endless.

Have you checked the 1939 Register? If the GRO have identified her marriage and death they may have opened her entry and so done part of the work for you.
