Missing birth registration

When a baby is christened do you have to produce a birth certificate. I can't find a record of my Grandfather being registered although I know he was christened on 13th April 1884 and his date of birth was given as 21 March 1884. His brothers & sisters were all registered, so don't know why he was missed, his name was William Hughes Novak

Val,

It's not a requirement to show a birth certificate before baptism, however it was in 1884 a requirement to register a birth, though not all births were.

Good find Bert, Val if this comes back correct you should consider submitting a correction for the misspelling - although it could be that the original looks very like the wrong letter.

Hi Bert & Mary Received PDF today and it was the birth Bert found, if I could get my new computer to work like the old one did I would post it so you could see. The birth was not actually registered until 29th April which was after he was baptised!. Many thanks for your help.

Val

That's great, a bit of lateral thinking did the trick.
