Can you tell us what information you have on Joshua? ie marriage? children? occupation/trade? where he lived? are you looking for census information or other?

From the Gores Directory of 1790 you could keep these on file in case any are related.

I know his wife was Martha married in 1810 in Liverpool. His daughter Ellen born in 1808 and his son Thomas, my relation born in 1811 who married Sarah johnson in Rainford. They lived in Prescot and he was a watchmaker. I have Thomas's line from there but cannot go back any further. philip Hewitt

The World Museum, Liverpool has an online horology database that lists Joshua Hewitt.

Have you tried Lancashire OPC http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/ there are quite a number of Hewitt children born to Joshua, watchmaker close to the appropriate date, including

Two other children - the first Ann may have died, it was common to name a second after an earlier deceased one.

You may be able to take this line a little further back as there are many Joshua Hewitt's watchmakers in the area, which is famous for watchmakers, in fact there is a small museum in Prescot dedicated to watchmakers.

That's a discrepancy then isn't it, perhaps our poster can give the details he believes of his Thomas's marriage.

Hi quick question about Ellen 1808, she was born 2 years before his marriage. Was she Martha's child or was he married before? Tks

Ellen was born before they got married. I do not know if she was Marthas child, at her wedding one witness Joshua Hewitt and another Robert Doke, Samuel s father.

She married Samuel Doke in 1850 and died in 1870. when they got married she was down as a widow, so it must have been a second marriage. I have a name for husband as Palmer ?.

Sorry it was a typo. I cannot find any info on the parents. I think his father was Joshua born 1736 in prescot. You know what think means !
