Help please. The census shows they had 4 children who have died. How should I try to find them please?

How long had the parents been married?
Do you have them in the earlier censuses, 1901, 1891, 1881? The children might show up on one and not on the next.

All four children are showing on the 1901 census, living at 21 Milroy Street.
William J aged 12
Eleanor aged 9
Bessie P aged 7
Albert aged 3.

It should be fairly straightforward to go to GRO and look at the death records.

EDIT - I have just checked the 1911 census and all four children are still alive, as well as another son, Sidney.
EDIT 2 - The 1911 census shows 9 children in total, with 5 alive and 4 dead. Parents had been married 27 years so about 1887.

The couple were married at St Cyprians, 1884, Thomas Wilson/Margaret Parkinson.

The following children were baptised in the same church,

James, 1885.
Thomas, 1887.
William James, 1888.
Margaret Alice, 1890.
Eleanor, 1891.
Bessie Parkinson, 1893.
Albert, 1897.
Sidney, 1901.

Haven't found the ninth child, unlikely to have been baptised elsewhere, perhaps died before baptism was possible.

Have you used he GRO site since they made the mothers maiden name available? It's been invaluable to me in discovering the missing children. If you start two years after the marriage and search with a +/- 2 years choosing male/female alternately with just the two surnames filled in, you should be able to compile a complete list of all children, making it easier to identify those who haven't survived.

To find the deaths its easier to check freebmd and see which are marked with 0 years.

Looking at the grave number for James on Familysearch, there were 2 others buried in the same grave on the same day. Would this be a public grave or pauper's

No idea why, if you look on the previous page to James, there are 18 graves with the same number and more on the previous page to that, Were they burying them in trenches or is it a row number?

Oh dear that is so sad, generally when there are a few of the same number down the page you expect it to be a general grave, but that does seem far too many. Both 7980 and 7982 have so many in them.

I've never come across a layout plan for this cemetery but will make an enquiry next week to see if there is any reference to it.

Bert, Thanks for that link to the magazine about graves. I for one found it very interesting. I have also heard that unbaptised or still born children were put as "pillows" in other coffins to be buried.

The burials should be recorded nevertheless, but I suspect sometimes weren't.

I've also recently come across in Anfield an entry in a "Bricked" grave, sometime I'm looking forward to seeing this and checking what it looks like.

Just to let you know I haven't forgotten about the search for a grave plan for the Necropolis, but it took time to identify whether there is actually one listed, still don't know how good it's going to be yet, but when I got the microfilm out, searched through it and then discovered it was the wrong film in the box Tried a couple of other films but still the wrong ones, will try again next week hoping the staff have found the right one.
